New Town

New school, new life. New town which sucks. I don't know my way around. There are so many places to check out. New restaurants, new stores. New people to meet.

On top of all of that overwhelming crap, I have to start a new school tomorrow. My whole summer was revolved around moving and packing. Saying goodbye to people.

It was not fun. Now I'm here. In Silverfalls. Unfortunately. I miss my own home town. Sighing I continue to unpack. I hear footsteps coming up the stairs and just ignore it.

I hear a knock on my door. I sigh loudly, and go to open the door. My mother stands there tall and proud. Her long blond hair flows gracefully down her back, her big blue eyes shining. She honestly looks like a goddess. Then there's me.

My short choppy brown hair has blue streaks in it, and I have boring grey eyes. I'm not sure where I got the grey eyes from. Apparently my dad had brown eyes. He died.

  "Melody" my mother's states.

  "What mother?" I ask dejected.

"Now don't be like that. I just wanted to ask how the unpacking is going."

  "Fine."

"I know you're not happy about this move. So I got you a little present."

  "What is it?"

  "A puppy"

  "Thanks?"

"Don't be so ungrateful I raised you better then that!"

  "Sorry mother"

  "Well the dog is downstairs"

I run down the stairs. Although it may not seem it, I'm very excited to have a dog. I run downstairs to see a scarred up pitbull. She's beautiful. I walk to the shaking figure slowly. She seems terrified. Poor thing.

I walk to her slowly and don't make eye contact. I have always wanted to rescue a dog. Now I know that I can change at least one dogs life. The poor babe is terrified. I go to her and reach my hand out. The leans forward and sniffs my hand. I look away and feel a lick on my hand.

I smile and she walks into me slowly. I have never seen a change in a scared dog so quick. I see my mom smiling down at me. I get up and hug her.

"What happened to her?" I asked.

"She was in dog fights." My mother says shaking her head sadly.

"That's bullshit! How could you throw such a sweet heart in the ring?"

"You have to be a real jerk to do it"

  "What's her name?"

  "Pipette"

"Come on Pipette! Let's go to sleep"

I run up the stairs and she follows in pursuit. I lay on my mattress and Pipette joins me. She curls up next to me and I sigh from happiness for once. I can't wait to work with animals. After all I will be studying to be an vet!

I pick out an outfit and put it on my dresser. I lay out the makeup I'm gonna use tomorrow, and brush my teeth. I brush my hair and put it in braids. This is the usual nighttime routine.

Drifting off I can't help but dream what the first day of school will be like.
