The Gift

Chapter 2

"We'll have lots of fun!" Luffy continued to grin at the news his lover just told him. He brings her in close, gently pressing his forehead against hers. "Then we can show 'em to Makino, that cool pinwheel guy, Dadan and your sister!"

"It's dangerous to be pregnant on a pirate ship, Luffy!" Nami places her hands on his cheek and backs away so she can look him in the eye more clearly. She noticed his grin falter, turning serious as the sudden realization dawned on him. She kept her gaze firmly on his, her voice growing more worried and less confident as she continues. "It's dangerous to have a baby aboard. It's dangerous to live on an island or even go home without you and the others too but I can hide it for a-"

"I'll protect you." Luffy cuts her off before she could continue her rambling. He removes his straw hat and places it on Nami instead, a love language she's come to understand. He kisses her cheek, then her forehead before speaking. "If you stay on the ship, or even if you find an island to stay on, I'll always be there to protect you, remember?"

"...I know." Nami shuts her eyes closed, leaning into his hold. Luffy slides his arm around her to let her feel more of him, knowing that she finds comfort in his presence alone. "I don't want you to put your dreams on hold for me."

"I won't," He nestled his head into her hair, wrapping his navigator up in a warm embrace. Although Nami furrowed her brows in question as to what he meant. She hears his familiar laugh, " 'Cause I'll be starting a new dream first!"

Before she knew what was happening, there were tears in her eyes. She felt so relieved. Happy. She wasn't sure what the tears were for. It must have been her mood swings.

When Luffy realizes she was crying, he pulls away, framing her face with his hands and wiping her tears away with his thumbs. He keeps grinning at her, making her lips quirk into a small smile, then kissed her forehead again.

"I'll definitely protect you. And when the baby is born, I'll protect him or her too! And -"

"I know Luffy!" Nami says with a laugh, closing her eyes, relief clearly washing over her with every new word he spoke. Her idiot Captain never changed.

There were always these moments with Luffy that somehow still surprise her... but she was glad to have him... and to be with him in return.

Nami opens her eyes, a small smile on her face, staring up at the clear blue sky. She had been lost in her thoughts and thanks to the sunglasses that were brought by Robin, thanks to her Devil Fruit powers, it must have seemed like she was sleeping.

"Robin?"

"Yes, Nami?"

"When do you think I should tell them?"

Robin presses her lips into a thin line, thinking. "Now might seem like a good idea."

Nami looks at everyone that was currently outside. She knew Usopp and Sanji were in the kitchen now, with the sniper currently working on something that would most likely cause the cook to try and kick him out after getting fresh fish for him. Franky was steering the ship, Luffy was at his usual favorite spot watching as they passed seagulls and kept an eye out for any Sea Kings they might come across. Chopper was playing on the swing with Zoro sleeping against the trunk of the tree and Brook was playing some relaxing music on his violin to keep everyone tranquil. The navigator sighs and nods to herself. Robin noticed her defeated look with a knowing smile.

"Better late than never." Nami stands up off her seat looking over to where Luffy was at. "Luffy!"

Upon hearing his name, the rubber man turns his head to look at Nami, a large smile forming on his lips as he uses Sunny's ears to launch himself over to her side.
