Chapter 1: The New Girl in Town

I grunt as I pull another box out of the moving van and walk it up to our new white brick house. My father bought a house this size for three people to live in, I honestly have no idea what he was thinking.

Then again, when your mom is a famous fashion designer and your dad is the CEO of Apple, they tend to have a lot of money to throw away.

Since we moved, I'll have to start my junior year, which was supposed to be the best year of my life, in some stupid rich-kid town. I plan to thrive through my junior year by keeping my head down as an unknown player on the girls soccer team at West High.  Original name for a high school, right?

Dad shipped me off from our old home in New York City last week to stay in a hotel not far from our new house so I could try out for soccer.  Results for the team will be announced on my first day of school tomorrow.

I carry the box up the stairs.  I could take the elevator but I don't entirely love being enclosed in a small space alone.

Walking down the seemingly endless hall, I turn right and open the frosted glass door that leads to my bedroom.

Just like the rest of the house, my bedroom is too big.  My mother went all-out decorating it.  Large four-poster canopy bed, over flowing walk-in closets full of designer clothes and shoes, vanity complete with all the makeup and hair stuff I will ever need, flat screen TV, desk for school work, and a brown leather couch, all courtesy of my mother.  If it were up to me, I'd be happy with a simple bed and desk.  But not with my mother.  I'm just pleased that we have a full-sized gym and weight room.

I've played soccer since I was four and took on basketball, lacrosse, and archery in middle school.  I currently have over 31 offers from Division One colleges from around the country for soccer.  Pretty neat, huh?

I place the cardboard box on the vanity and remove the picture frame on top.  I stare sadly at the professional picture of me and my twin brother, Logan.  With our mother, we were expected to model in all her fashion shows.  This picture is from the very last one before my brother went away.  I set it up on the vanity and leave the rest of the box unopened.

Quickly changing into my favorite pajamas, I prepare for bed. I pad barefoot over to my door and call over the intercom, "Goodnight mom, goodnight dad!"

"Goodnight, Sophia!" They respond.

I flip off the lights and climb into bed, getting a good night's rest before hell tomorrow.
