We waited until the cover of night. At 10 pm, Asahina shut down all of the power in the palace. I walked up to the demon guarding front gate.
"Name please?"
I sighed, and so did he. "Look, it's required of me to ask. Besides, we've lost power," he reasoned.
"Eren Okumura," I say. He lets us pass.
The Great Hall was empty. There are no maids or butlers running around with platters of food, weapons, or clean clothes. Instead, they were desperately trying to get power back. The power grid was in the dungeon, so naturally that's where everyone went to go look. Rin and I managed to get to the bedroom hallway without anyone noticing us. That part was good.
What wasn't good was that Luke, my eldest half-human brother, was waiting for us.
"Making your escape plans, Eren? Who's that with you?" he asked suspiciously. He seemed to catch on fairly quickly. So I knocked him out. A servant will notice, but hopefully by then, we'll be long gone.
We ran as fast as we could to my bedroom at the end of the hall. Fasha, my sister, was already waiting for us there.
"Hurry, hurry, I think the power will be back soon," she said. Just as we made it inside, with a small click, the power was working again. Asahina can no longer help us.
Fasha handed me a small drawstring backpack that had infinite space inside. It was light blue, which was sort of ironic. I am glad I had her prepare a second one, so Rin can have one as well. The last part was the hardest. I took my cell phone out of my pocket and typed furiously, asking Lexi and Jordan, two other siblings of mine, to guard the door. They agreed.
I went around the room one more time, looking for hidden schoolbooks, medicine, food, or weapons. I found a holy water grenade, a bow, 66 arrows (ha), 8 throwing knives, and 2 swords. I also found some healing pomegranate seeds and some demonic healing cream. I didn't find much food, but I did manage to find some home-baked bread and a bottle of water. As I went through my room, all of my exorcism books were already packed. I sighed with relief, and took out one of my knives.
"Rin, I'll need you to help me. Hold out your arm please, and do not scream. All that will do is alert the others."
He held out his arm, and I quickly slashed it. The wound wasn't too deep, and Rin managed to not scream. He held his breath, but he remained silent.
After his arm started dripping blood steadily, I slashed mine as well. Our blood mixed, and I started chanting the summoning phrase.
"Onni sem. Hytuf si garwum jikeo kahna see wo."
(A/N: ^^ this is made up. If it translates in to something offensive, I apologize.)
After a few deep breaths, the Gehenna Gate was fully formed. I bandaged my arm, and then Rin's arm. I was about to jump in when I heard Fasha well "WAIT!"
I turned around and she was holding a small locket. There was a blue charm shaped to resemble a flame. She held it out to me. "You almost forgot your switch," she said. I breathe a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Fasha. Take care for me, will you?"
"I will. Visit sometime, okay?"
I promised I would visit regularly. I nudged Rin inside the portal and jump in myself.
The trip to Assiah was disorienting. I couldn't tell up from down, left from right, my arm from my leg. The pain shooting up my arm was a reminder of who I was, how dangerous I was. A few moments later, all I saw was a bright white light. And someone shouting above us, "RIN! Rin's back!"
