Carnival

Rae's POV

"I'll call you later, I have to go get ready now," I say to Rose, about to go get ready to go on a date with Michael. "Where are you going?" Rose asks me, being the curious child she is. "Michael and I are going to the carnival tonight," I respond, going through my closet for some nicer clothes than a pair of sweatpants and a sports bra.

"Ooh. Wear your really nice skinny jeans," she says. "They make your butt look good." I laugh and we say our goodbyes. "Bye, weirdo. Looking at my butt all the time."

I get dressed -taking her advice, of course, because she wasn't wrong- into my skinny jeans, a Nirvana shirt, and my black converse. I leave my hair natural, debating curling but deciding that would take too much effort for the carnival where it'll just get messed up anyways. Putting on a light amount of makeup, I then make sure I have money and my phone in my purse, and shove some chapstick in there as well.

I sit on the couch and watch some old Teen Wolf episodes until Michael gets here, since he insisted on driving us instead of letting me meet him there. After half an episode, he gets here, still being a gentleman (he brought me flowers) and we go to the car. "I still have the flowers from last time you came over, you know," I say as we go to the carnival, which I'm pretty sure is being held in the Firemen's fields.

"You can never have too many flowers," he responds. "That's what you think." Eventually we end up at our destination, and we get out of the car. I start pulling out my money, but Michael being Michael, he takes my money from me and shoves it back into my purse. "No." This happens every time we go anywhere that costs money.

Not that I'm ungrateful for it, but he spends so much money on me and I don't get the chance to spend money on him. My family doesn't have a lot of money, and by my family I mean me and my mother, and whenever I do get the chance to do something nice for Michael, he doesn't accept it.

We get our wristbands and immediately head to one of the food carts, because I live for their cotton candy. "One large cotton candy, please," Michael orders, grabbing a five-dollar bill from his wallet. "That'll be three ninety-five," the cashier says, handing him a bag of the pink and blue sugar with food coloring that's actually horrible for you, but tastes amazing.

I grab the bag from him and open it, letting the smell drift up to my nose before taking some out of the bag and eating it. Michael grabs some and then grabs my hand. "C'mon, I wanna go do something." We first head to the carnival games, where he wins me a total of three stuffed animals and two posters.

In return, I win him three posters and a stuffed animal (I'm not too good at the games where you win stuffed animals). For a while we just play at those games, and I win a goldfish for my cousin. Of course, Michael wins more games than me, because he's way better at them.

"Let's go on some rides now," he suggests. We start out on something small, like the swings. There are a bunch of seats, some big enough for two people and some only for one, and the machine makes them rise high into the air and the machine spins them.

We chose a two seater and I sit on the outside seat. Obviously it's not the most exciting ride, but still, we go on it. After that, we go to the UFO, the ride that looks like a circle where you stand and there's a belt that's strapped in front of you, and it spins really fast, and eventually it goes upright, so it kind of looks like a wheel.

I personally love that ride, so we go on it about three or four times before Michael refuses to go on again. "No way are we going on again right now, I feel like I'm about to throw up." Then we go to one of those mirror maze things, where all the walls are mirrors and you have to try to make your way out.

We kept getting lost, but after about ten-fifteen minutes, we finally made it out. Then we go on a ride called the Screaming Eagle (A/N: Video clip). I had to take my glasses off so they didn't fall. "Ready?" I ask him as the floor drops, leaving our feet dangling off the seat.

"Of course I am, I think the real question is, are you ready?" I try to nod, the swinging of the ride making it kind of hard to do so. We scream, as you're supposed to do on the Screaming Eagle.

I grab Michael's hand, squeezing it as it's been a while since I've been on this ride and it's a bit unnerving. Eventually it ends, and Michael grabs my glasses for me, since I can't exactly see where they are without them.

"Where to now?" He asks. "Where ever you want to," I respond. He smiles and asks me if I'd want to go onto the Ferris Wheel, knowing I hate heights. "I hate you." I say. "You know how much I hate heights."

"How about at the end of the night. Please?" I sigh. "Fine. But only because I know you want to be really cheesy. God knows we can't deprive you of your right to be cheesy," I say, smiling at him. Michael nods. "You know it."

I drag him onto a ride called the Alien Abduction (not the same as the UFO), where it's kind of like a dome (it looks like a spaceship), and when you get in you lean against a fraction of a wall that moves up and down, and there are no straps. When it starts, it spins really fast and it's kind of like gravity is gone, and the walls move up and down. It makes me just as dizzy as the other ride does, but it's so much fun.

"This one isn't any better than the wheel thing," Michael calls out. After this ride, we decide to take a break and just walk around.

We look at the jewelry and everything else that's for sale, say hi to people we know, just having a casual walk around the carnival.

By the time we circle around once, it's getting dark out, so we go wait in the extremely long line for the Ferris wheel, and after waiting twenty minutes, we finally get in.

Our cart slowly makes its way up towards the top. I sit as close to Michael as possible, since I'm afraid of heights and it's just really cold up here.

"Thanks for coming here with me tonight," I say to him. "I know you didn't really want to come." He smiles at me.

"You wanted to come, so of course I wanted to," he responds, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. The machine comes to a stop, our cart being the highest one up.

I look up at Michael, letting him have his cheesy moment. He leans down and before he does, I take my phone out and take a picture as our lips touch.

The moment was ruined though, because when the flash went off, Michael got startled and jumped back. I smiled awkwardly as he kissed me again, the cart slowly moving back down.

After we get off of the Ferris wheel, we head towards the car and drive to my house, where Michael still insists on walking me to the door to say goodbye.

Needless to say, this date was definitely one of the more successful ones.
