"Alright," Toast conceded. "If you don't feel comfortable about sharing what you're going through at the moment, then we'll leave you alone about it."
"Thank you,"Jimmy growled, then walked off.
"What has gotten into that creep?" Mereda scowled. "I mean, I've figured out now why we don't get along, and it's not that he stabbed me as soon as we met."
"Really?" Sarah sounded unconvinced. "I'd hate him forever if that was the case. No, wait, I hate his blood-covered ass anyway."
"Since he's a lampad and I'm an alsaid, we're natural enemies," Mereda explained. "Light versus dark, it's just the way it works. There's always been and always will be a strong rivalry between the two sides, and lampads and alsaids represent that. That's why I was feeling uneasy about Ghost at first. Jimmy's dark energy was flowing through him!"
"Now it all makes sense!" Toast sat up quickly, and ran to the boys' bedroom to grab his journal to jot down this newly learned information, leaving the girls to their own devices.
"I remember now!" Carlisle started bouncing excitedly. "Alsaids and lampads have always been fighting for dominance over the nymphic race, and their constant clash has kept the two powers in balance, even among other races! It makes total sense!"
"Now that you explain it to me, I can understand how that would work," Sarah agreed. "If the amount of power that the two sides possess is equal, then the constant flow of that power would prevent either one from becoming dominant over the other."
Toast came running back downstairs with his journal, plopped back in his recliner, grabbed a pen and began writing vigorously, trying to relay all of the information running through his head.
As Toast wrote, Carlisle could begin to make out the silhouette of raven's wings on Toast's shoulders. She began breathing heavily, and nudged Mereda so that she could see, too, and she did. Was Toast slowly transforming into a faerie?
As Toast finished his notes, the wings disappeared, and Carlisle and Mereda were caught staring.
"What are you staring at me for?" Toast asked.
"We thought we saw something," Mereda answered quickly.
"Hm," Toast closed his book and sat back, taking a deep breath.
Carlisle motioned for Mereda to follow her, and the two of them talked in their room.
"So I wasn't imagining it," Carlisle concluded. "Toast really does have the ghost of raven's wings."
"Yeah," Mereda confirmed. "But he may not even know about it."
"He should know," Carlisle proposed. "But how do we tell him?"
"Let's just talk to him and give it to him up front," Mereda implored. "He doesn't seem to like vague conversation, so we shouldn't waste his time with it."
"Agreed."
