Scans and Surprises

*Hazels POV*
Jack and I are currently in the hospital waiting room ready for our first checkup and scan of our baby, i'd be a liar if i said that i'm not scared but i'm keeping it together for Jack who i can tell is worried too, i rested my head on his shoulder and he turned his head to kissed my hair, we didn't speak because we didn't need to, in that moment we both understood that the other was worried but didn't need to do anything as we now had a mutual understanding. We were both quite content in our positions as we were approached by a doctor,
"Mr and Mrs Howard?"
"Yep that's us" Jack shot in before I even had the chance to open my mouth
"Okay, its nice to meet you, if you could follow me please"
We both got up from our seats, Jack held his hand out for me and we walked hand in hand behind who I could only presume was my doctor into a very large room in the 'Pregnancy and Maternity' area of the hospital.

The doctor asked me to lay on the bed near to the ultrasound machine before we went through anything else,

"Mrs Howard i am going to need you to remove your coat and lift anything else you're wearing to above your ribs"

I have never been good with doctors, not since i was a little girl, and i just froze, the only movement i managed to make was to turn my head to send a pleading look towards Jack, as soon as he saw me look so helpless he jumped from his chair and came to console me, he pulled me in for a hug and whispered soothingly into my ear,

"babe its okay, i'm here, he wouldn't be making you do it if you didn't have to, i'm going to be right here next to you the whole time. I promise you"

I slowly removed myself from Jacks grasp, looked him in the eye and nodded. Quickly i took off my coat and threw it over the back of a chair before getting on the bed and pulling up my top to reveal my stomach, i held my hand out for Jack to take, he took it gently an kissed the back of it before stepping forward and holding it to his chest, he makes me laugh, he's like a character in a cheesy love film, but thats just one of the reasons why i love him so. i must have been in a daze as i was quite rudely removed from my thoughts by ridiculously cold gel stuff being squeezed onto my tummy, i jumped with surprise as the offending substance hit my warm skin and i heard Jack giggle slightly, i shot him a warning look,

"Not the time Jack Howard"

We both watched the screen as the doctor started the scan, if i'm honest i didn't really know what i was looking for but i watched as the doctor pointed out some things on the screen, I knew Jack was listening so ill let him explain it to me on the way home.

"Would you like me to print you any ultrasound photos off? They're a nice way to announce a pregnancy"

Suddenly i came out of my daze and piped up "Um, yes we'll take three please" i turned to Jack "we can send one to each of our mothers"

I got off the bed and adjusted my clothes before going to sit in front of the doctor and discuss the important parts,

"Right, Mr and Mrs Howard id like you to know that i'm am very happy with what i've already seen i just need to fill in a due date before i can let you go, and this can be the awkward part.  Firstly i must ask if this pregnancy was planned?"

"Well not exactly" Jack started "We were on our honeymoon around a week and a half ago you see and we didn't find out until we got home"

"I see, I doubt this is something you want to be asked but, um, is there any chance that you know when it  happened? its just we like our predictions to be as accurate as possible"

As soon as those words came out of the doctors mouth i felt my whole face go bright red, i turned to Jack and discovered that he was in a similar state, we both shared a look knowing exactly what day it would have been, i locked eyes with Jack and gave him a nod to let him know that he should be the one to say it, he cleared his throat

"well yes, we think it may have been the Thursday, Thursday the 8th"

I intwined my fingers with Jacks as the doctor put the information into his computer and calculated a due date,

"Right so after 'the act' it takes between 48 and 60 hours for everything to work so im giving you a predicted due date of August 10th 2017"

It turns out that stressing all day is actually really tiring so i ended up sleeping all the way home in the car, i didn't wake up once until Jack rubbed my leg slightly in an attempt to wake me

"Hazel were home" i heard Jack whisper as he rubbed his hand on my thigh, i groaned to show him that i was awake as i rummaged to find my seatbelt before stumbling out of the car and into my house, slightly more awake i hugged Jack and nuzzled my face into the crook of his neck

"Thankyou for everything today. I fucking love you Jack Howard"

he rubbed my back and played with my hair as i lifted my head to look him in the face, we locked eyes and in my sleepy, soppy state i leaned in, this is something ill never get bored of, not necessarily just kissing him but just being close to Jack every time we touch it feel like its the first time, theres a rush of energy, ive never had that with anyone before. Before i know it Jack is sat on the sofa i am in his lap and we are fully making out just in the middle of the living room, suddenly without warning Jack pulls away and i hear myself groan in frustration at him, he throws one of his cute little smirks in my direction and says,

"The last time this happened" pointing towards our lips, "this happened" he laughed placing a hand on my stomach, "I think it is time for us to go to sleep Hazel" and with a wink he was making his way quickly towards our bedroom.

"BASTARD" i shouted after him

After my usual morning routine consisting of getting dressed, eating breakfast and throwing up the breakfast you have just eaten i decided that it was time for me and Jack to tell our mothers about the baby, we have decided that we are going to facetime them both on out own phones at the same time and without warning during the conversation show them the scan picture

I clicked my mothers number and Jack did the same, my stomach was doing somersaults as both calls connected almost simultaneously

"HELEN! The woman herself, how've ya been"

"Hiya mum how are you doing?

We both chatted along to our own mothers, occasionally swapping phones to talk to the mother in-law but after around 20 minutes of lovely conversation me and Jack decided that it was time, i counted down slowly as both of the mammys chatted away and we both turned our cameras around to focus on the scan, for a moment the room went silent before two screams erupted from out phones,

for a while afterwards all we heard were congratulations and sobbing from both of them, this is so much better than i imagined it to be we haven't been questioned once and i cant remember the last time i saw Helen look so happy, i leant over to Jack and kissed him on the cheek, i don't remember a time he looked to happy either, other than our wedding day of course.

We all carried on conversations for a while but suddenly my mammy went quiet, "Helen are you still there?" i asked getting worried,

"Hmm, oh yes i''m here i'm just booking flights for yourself, Jack and Angela, you're all coming to Ireland so we can be together, mothers and children for a real celebration of this wonderful news"

I laughed at my mother, i could see she'd been crying but she wouldn't let on "Oh Helen, i can't wait"
