☾ Ch. 2 | Bath Time ☽
Fairies all have their own preference for their homes. Most live in hollowed out squashes and gourds, or small wooden homes, along with plenty of other creative choices. As for Devin, and his little angel, they called an antique silver tea pot their home. He opened up the front door, holding it open for Ricky.
"You've got paint on you, Baby." Devin softly laughed as he ran his thumb over Ricky's cheek.
The animal fairy squeaked a bit, "Will you please give me a bath?"
"Of course." He kissed his forehead, then glanced at his own hands, "I think we both could use a bath."
Devin walked over to the small glass bowl that serviced as a bathtub. He leaned over to the faucet, turning the handle. When nothing but air came out, he stared at the pump with dismay. Devin tapped on it a few times with his long manicured nails, receiving nothing more. Ricky plopped down on the floor with a frown. He huffed, being just done with this particularly frustrating day.
"Oh, it's okay, Sweetie. Don't worry. I can fix it." Devin spoke optimistically. Then he crossed his arms as he stared at the tub. "Well, okay, I can't fix it. I'm not a tinker, but I'll have Josh look at it in the morning. For now," He held his finger up to signal 'wait', "I'll get a temporary fix. Stay here, Mommy will be right back."
He quickly flew up to the window, popping it open to fly out. Ricky didn't really like being alone but he put up with it for the time being. He didn't move from his spot on the ground while he waited on his caregiver to come back. Very few of the other fairies knew he was a little. He didn't mind keeping it a secret, as long as he got enough time with Devin every day. Times like today though, he was grateful to have the few friends that did know. What would he have done if Angelo hadn't have taken him to his caregiver?
Five minutes, that felt like fifty, passed before Devin swooped back in through the window. He dropped down to the ground and opened the front door. Shaking his head with a laugh, he let Chris inside. "I'll never understand why you walk so much."
Chris shrugged, "I like the exercise. I don't get as much as you guys do. I mean, I spend most my day in one spot on the bank."
Devin playfully rolled his eyes, "That's just because you prefer to train water bugs and fishes all day. You could come water my flowers every once and awhile, or help a light fairy capture rainbows."
"You've got plenty of other water fairies that can do that." He responded. Then he glanced down at Ricky sitting on the floor and offered a soft smile, "Don't worry. I'll get you some nice fresh water for a bath."
"Thank you." Ricky muttered. Some of their friends, Chris being one of them, intimidated him a little bit more than others. Being that Chris was pretty tall for a fairy, it was easy for anyone to be a little scared of him, despite his docile nature. Ricky was quick to shy away in front of him.
Chris took a quick look over of the faucet, concluding the same result as Devin. "There's not even any water in the tank. That's weird."
He sighed, "This old house is always breaking."
"Why don't you get a new one?" Chris asked, flying towards the open window.
Devin glanced back at his little baby, "This is our home. It's where we fell in love. I don't want to leave it."
"Awe." He mused, "Be right back." Chris traveled outside of the window. He went out to the dusk sky, watching as the light fairies rushed to get the last few lights of day. With ease, he grabbed a bit of cloud, pushing it back down inside the teapot house until it was over the glass bowl. He whirled around his finger, causing the cloud to rain. "There."
Devin sighed out of relief, "Thank you."
Just as the tub started to get to its fill line, the cloud ran out of water. Chris grabbed it, flying it back out to the window. He gave it a light shove out and it started to float back up to the sky. Then he stuck his upper half out of the window, calling up to one of the light fairies, "Vic! Could you please warm up some water for me?"
"Yeah, man." The light fairy responded. He pulled over a beam of light, directing it into the window. Then he flew down into the home and used his hands to bend the light towards the bath.
"Thank you, Vic." Devin softly said.
"No problem. Your tub not working again?" He asked.
"Unfortunately." He sighed, "I'll get it fixed in the morning."
"Well, I hope it's the last time you have to get it fixed. Let me know if you need anything else." He replied, fluttering off quickly to finish his evening work.
Chris watched him go, then spoke, "I should get home myself."
"Okay. Thank you for your help." Devin hesitated from saying what he wanted to say to Chris. He walked over to Ricky, offering him a hand, "Now, let's try that bath again.
Their water talent friend flew off with a "goodnight" on his way. Devin was saddened to know he would be going home to no one. Everyone should have someone. For a lot of fairies, though, their work and love for nature comes first. It doesn't mean it's any easier to see your friends be that lonely. Devin didn't want his baby boy to see him upset though. He turned his frown into a smile and focused on the task at hand.
Devin helped Ricky out of his clothes gently. He offered his baby a hand getting into the bath. Though he needed a bath as well, he wanted Ricky to get all the warm water first. Devin gently ran the water over Ricky's arms, pecking his forehead with a kiss in the process. He took a bar of soap, made from all natural ingredients of course, and softly scrubbed all the paint off of his baby.
"We'll get you a good night's rest tonight, Sweetie. I know you had a hard day today but tomorrow is a new day, okay?" Devin said.
"Otay." Ricky muttered. He was starting to get tired and the warm bath he sat in wasn't helping him from falling asleep.
Once Devin got Ricky's hair washed as well, he stood up to wash his wings. The little angel giggled a bit as his caregiver started to rinse them off. Wings were rather sensitive and or Ricky, that translated into being ticklish. Every time he laughed, Devin beamed a smile. It was one of the most amazing things in the world to him.
"All done." Devin put his hand on Ricky's shoulder and kissed his cheek. Then he offered his hand to him, "Let's get you dried off and in bed." After running a towel over his porcelain skin, Devin put Ricky into some pajama pants. He picked him up gently and carried him over to their bed. Devin set him down, then handed him his stuffed animal. "I'll be in bed in a few minutes. I've got to wash myself off really quick, but you go to sleep, Sweetheart."
He might've closed his eyes but there was no way Ricky was actually going to sleep without his Mommy's arms around him. Devin wasn't always his Mommy. Sometimes he was his Daddy but he didn't care. He supported his caregiver being genderfuild. As long as he got proper care and love, he was happy. That's all that really mattered.
Once Devin turned around to strip off his dress, Ricky's eyes popped back open. He watched while Devin did his nightly beauty routine. In about fifteen minute's time, he managed to rush through it all. He was a bit of a drama queen but most garden fairies were on the glamourous side of things. They liked to be pampered as much as their flowers.
Now in a long night gown, Devin snuck in beside his baby. Ricky tried to pretend he was asleep but he couldn't help himself from turning over to snuggle into his Mommy's chest. With a soft smile, Devin embraced him in his arms.
