Ch. 4 | New Arrival

It didn't matter that it was late at night. A new arrival was something no fairy wanted to miss. Everyone rushed to try to get a good seat around the top of the dust try. The fast flying fairies worked to push the delicate dandelion puff to the right spot. Kuza flew around rhythmically until he got it to land right in the middle of the center platform. He held out his hands in a 'stay' manner as he flew backwards. Once it was still, he joined his other wind fairies in their seating section.

Ryan grabbed a scoop full of dust with an acorn bowl. He flew up the several levels of the tree until he reached the top. He tipped all the dust onto the flower petal. The cascade of glittering gold settled into a young fairy. There were plenty of whispers going around, especially from all the girls. It had been so long since there was a new boy in the hollow. This one's eyes were do innocent like a dear's. They all greeted the curious creature with soft hellos.

A few murmurs and gasps scattered throughout the crowd upon the Queen's arrival. The ministers of the four seasons joined her as she spoke her greeting, "Born of laughter, clothed in cheer, happiness has brought you here. Welcome to Pixie Hollow. I trust you found your way alright?"

He stood up slowly, "I... Guess."

She smiled and flew around him, "Now, let's see about those wings." Queen Clarion ran her fingertips up the edges, causing them to perk up. She offered him a hand and he started to fly up. He was a natural, and it was apparent by the smile on his face, he was happy to be.

With just a tip of her hand, she caused little mushroom platforms to spring up in a circle around him. The Queen gave a nod for the fairies to bring upon the representations of their talents. Chris flew up to one of the leaves of the tree and tipped it down until a dewdrop fell into his hands. He carried it down to one of the platforms, smiling sweetly at the new arrival.

The other fairies followed after him. Devin brought over a beautiful flower, setting it down. Whether it was him or the flower, one of the two lit up the new fairy's eyes. Angelo brought down a small robin's egg, then flew back. Devin followed him to stop by where Ricky sat and gave him a sweet kiss. Then he rushed back over to the garden fairies' section. More items were placed around the newcomer. Though they were beautiful, they confused him.

"What... What are these things?" He asked.

"They will help you find your talent, Dear." Queen Clarion responded.

He looked around some more, "But... How will I... know-?"

She smiled gently, "You'll know."

Hesitantly, he began to approach the flower. Devin had made him feel so at ease earlier. That was something he'd like to have, no matter what the talent may be. As he just barely touched the flower, it's light diminished and it fell down. He tried to not let it discourage him too much. Next to it was that dewdrop of water. It too fell the second he attempted to touch it.

There were a few less exciting options that he walked past, for now. He seemed drawn to a swirling tornado of dust. This represented the rarest of fairies. The fast flyers sat across from the platform, watching with narrow eyes. He attempted to touch it, only for it to poof into dust. Kuza snit, turning up his nose. He wasn't too fond of new fairies and was rather happy to see he wouldn't have to train one.

The young fairy continued to walk, deciding to pass by the boring hammer. He began to walk towards a paint brush, turning around when he saw a bright light out of the corner of his eye. That hammer began to glow brighter and bright as it floated towards him. He timidly grabbed the handle and it beamed out a massive bright light. Whispers roared in the audience. No one had ever seen a hammer glow like that before.

"Tinkers," The Queen said, "Come welcome your newest talent; Vinny."

A warmhearted feeling washed over him to know he'd found a place he belonged. When he saw the three fairies flying towards him, however, that hammer fell out of his hand. Josh sighed as the two idiots beside him continued to try to fight as to who got to Vinny first. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Ignore them." He said as he landed in front of him, "They're... I don't know the best way to describe them. Anyways, my name is Josh, and I am very happy to welcome you as the newest tinker."

Remington kicked his brother off the platform. He stood up, pressing out his shirt with his hands. While two art fairies sat small talking for a moment, Emerson had to end his conversation with Ryan-Ashley abruptly. He rushed to catch his idiot brother before he fell onto something sharp.

"Sorry," Remington spoke as he walked up, "I'm Remington, and the one that just fell is my brother Sebastian. Oh, and the one that caught him is my brother too but he's not a tinker."

Emerson dropped Sebastian back onto the platform, "We may share DNA but some days I'm glad we don't share talents. You guys would drive me crazy to work with constantly."

He rolled over onto his back with a groan, "Gee, love you too."

"I'm going back to bed." He replied, bolting off.

"We'll show you around in the morning. For now, let's get you some sleep. You can bunk up with me until we get you a house built." Josh informed him.

"Um, thanks." Vinny shyly muttered.

The others took to the air and he followed. Everyone else was beginning to head back to their houses to get some sleep. Ricky was rather tired and not too happy he was woken up. Devin peppered him with kisses and took him by the hand. As the two flew away, they passed by the tinkers. Devin gave a friendly wave to Vinny. It made him feel warm and happy inside. He couldn't help but smile and wave back.

"Who's that?" He asked once they were out of earshot.

"The one in orange is Ricky. He's an animal fairy, and the one in pink is Devin. He's a garden talent. They're actually friends of mine. I'll have to introduce you when we get time." Josh responded.

He couldn't wipe the grin off his face, "That would be nice."
