I held Matilda tight to me as we walked in. I slammed the door and blocked it up. The wind outside howled. I looked around, and it held many books. Possibly a library. Matlida let go and wandered to look at the stuff that was left.
"What's going to happen to sissy now?" I barely heard her soft voice over the outside chaos. I frowned and looked outside of the window.
" I'm not sure..." I replied bluntly. A car slammed into the building but the wall held its place.
Matilda screamed and ran into the farthest corner. I glared at her and then started sorting our loot. I held up a chocolate bar I found and looked at her. She untangled her limbs and slowly walked over to me. She sat down, " May I please have this? " I was surprised by her sudden question. I had expected her to just take it. "Duh"
She happily took it and laid on the floor. "nom nom nom nom". She made noises every time she chewed. "Stay up here and scream if something happens... I'm going to check the basement."
She nodded and buried the wrapper in her pocket. I walked off to the entrance to the stairs. I crept down into the darkness. I tried to see in the darkness but I couldn't. Suddenly dim light entered the darkness. I turn around to see Matilda holding a candle.
" I thought you would need this.." She said. " Um... Thanks" I took it. I shined it around and saw that the basement was a kitchenette. "Score."
"Point one for us!" Matilda said from behind me.
"Us?"
"Yeah! We are a team now!" She did a chocolate smile.
" No. I want you to stay safe. If something happens to me, I can pray for someone nice to find you."
"Bu-"
"Don't ever leave here unless I tell you to."
She started to sniffle and trudged upstairs. I shook my head and turned to the mini-fridge built into the wall. I opened it and peered inside. It was still cold and filled with soda, snacks and water. I closed it quickly so it would stay cool inside. I rummaged around and found plastic sporks, plates, and bowls. The little girl's words echoed in my head. A team... Yeah right. It's every man for himself... I furrowed my eyebrows. She's only a chi- ooh. I saw a chocolate milk powder container on the counter. From my past memories, Matilda loves choclate milk. I took out the milk and mixed the two. I quickly put the milk back and took it upstairs.
" Hey.. " I said regrettingly.
She wiped her face, " Go away. " Her head was in her hands and her long hair waved over her small body.
" I'm sorry, Matilda. We are a team I just want you to be safe... I brought chocolate milk. " I said as I set the milk beside her.
She looked up reluctanly and took it like it was gold. " Thanks... "
" I'm going up okay? "
" Okay.. "
I climbed the stairs. I could here the wind whistling around outside. I looked through the books and picked out some japanese comics. I only picked humerous and romance ones, I've had enough drama. " Me too... Please? " I heard her voice echo around before I climbed down. I turned around and grabbed some princess books. I carried them down to her. She smiled " Thank you! " She started reading. I checked my watch then a clock on the wall. They were the same. It was already 6 o'clock.
I wonder if there is anyone else... I know how this will end up if we don't get Rain to stop this. The nuclear reactors will explode and then everyone will become mutants and we'll eat each o- Matilda was looking at me weird. My mind was racing. I must be going crazy... I gave Matilda a faint smiles and looked into a book. It was okay.
A few hours had gone by and we were getting bored. We can't stay cooped up in here. " I-I'm going out... If I don't come back, stay in here. Maybe try to get someone's attention. "
" What?! No! You can't go! I'll be all alone! You can't make it out there! Take me with you! " Matilda protested the idea. " We're a team, Tim. Take me or I'll try to find you myself. "
I raised an eyebrow. She'll die if she tries to look for me on her own.. "Fine! Come on, get your coats on. It's going to be very cold so brace yourself. "
" I know. " She said as she put on multiple thick coats.
" We need things like tents and sleeping bags, in-case we can't get back. " I said.
We started gathering the things. I looked around and found a piece of wood. I made marks in it with a knife I had found. When we came back, we could stick the knife between the doors and stick the tip into the grooves. From then I'd move it slowly until it opened, so that people don't steal our stuff. " Ready? " I reluctantly grabbed the handle.
" As I'll ever be! " She nodded her head. " Let's go! " She seemed so enthusiastic.
" Hold onto that excitement, Matilda. You'll need it. " I booped her nose and opened the door. Snow barrelled in. We shoved through the mess and closed the door. The wooden piece fell into the handles of the door, locking it. I looked ahead. The cold stung my eyes. Matilda was covering her face.
" Cold. " She peeped a word.
I nodded my head in response and looked for something to go to.

Sorry for being so inactive! I've procrastinated doing this for so long. Sorry :/ I actually really love this story and I get really into it. Hope you love this chapter! Also don't mind the grammer errors I have no time in school to fix it. :P I might fix them and make it look professional some day. Don't get your hopes up.- I'm lazy. Please comment if you have suggestions, grammer wise.
