Elizabeth and Christopher had met each other for the first time at the tender age of 9. Christopher was a new admission in Elizabeth's primary school. Elizabeth was born and grew up in Singapore. Her father was a taxi driver and her mother was a housewife. Christopher on the other hand was born and spent his kindergarten education in Malaysia. His father was a manager in a small company, his mother was also a housewife. They were both Chinese but followed Christianity.

Fate brought them together by giving Christopher's father a transfer to Singapore. Even more by chance, Christopher was placed in the same school as Elizabeth who was then in primary 3. Christopher first met her in Chinese class. No, it was not love at first sight for them. They knew each other as Chinese classmates, just Chinese classmates. Heck, they weren't even in the same form class. They only saw each other in break times and Chinese lessons. The first 6 months between them went by quickly.

Christopher had his own group of friends in Chinese while Elizabeth had hers. They had different social circles and never really spoke to each other. They were known to their friends as Chris and Liz. It was only after the half term break when one of Elizabeth's best friends started a fight with Christopher's best friend. Their fights became bigger and made Christopher and Elizabeth step in to defend their friends. This caused to them to know each other through their friends and their bickering.

That year passed quickly. Christopher and Elizabeth were now in primary 4. They knew each other better than ever. Having become closer through their fights, they realised they were very similar to each other. Christopher loved teasing Elizabeth as did all his friends. Elizabeth and her friends were equally good at retaliating at their pokes. Their comedy filled 'wars' brought many laughs to their Chinese class. Most,in fact almost all of their Chinese classes ended with the teacher yelling, "Christopher Tan Keng Kai! Elizabeth Hui Min Tay! Out of my class NOW!". While Christopher and Elizabeth walk out in giggles, the teacher was left fuming. Soon everyone wanted to go to their Chinese class more than anything else.

Through all their fights, the two groups of friends just got closer and closer. They were friendly to everybody and soon they became like a group. They were well known and popular and they were inclusive of anyone. Not surprisingly, by half term they were the most popular group of friends in primary 4.

Each one of the group members were unique in their own way. They had different dreams , different talents but were brought together by their unconditional love of teasing each other. Elizabeth did find Christopher's relentless teasing annoying but she didn't mind it.

Their class always had a Chinese class trip every 3 months and before Christopher and Elizabeth came, it was hated. More learning and a whole day of the Dragon lady alias Ms Tay. But that year's field trip was something everyone was looking forward too. why you ask? Well, with Christopher's  jokes throughout the journey their moods were lifted. Even the Dragon lady would grin and make the field trip to a certain extent interesting.  Elizabeth's friend, Hui lIng reckoned once " Eh Liz, remember before Chris and you became friends how boring our Chinese class was. No one enjoyed it leh. After you two become friends, everyone is happy. Maybe you two belong together?" Admittedly she said as a joke. But Elizabeth immediately lashed back saying,"Don't be so stupid can or not? We don't even like each other so much. You must be crazy already."  She made it clear to herself she did not like Christopher.  But something in her didn't feel as right and normal.
