Nagito Komaeda let out a soft sigh as he laid in the hospital bed, doing nothing but staring up at the white ceiling and listening to the sound of the beeping monitor beside him. No one had come to see him, as he had expected. They would probably be glad when was gone. After all, he was only ever an unwanted nuisance.

However, though Nagito wasn't surprised, he couldn't help but feel a weight of sorrow resting in the pit of his stomach. His eyes grew watery at the dark realization that crashed over him.

He was going to die alone.

Nagito had anticipated this outcome, as he always had a habit of pushing people away and getting on their nerves. But now that it had become a reality, selfish desires were clouding his mind. He wanted to be loved.

The white haired boy let out another small sigh, and closed his eyes. He knew that he didn't have much time left, but there was nothing he could do. How had he, the ultimate lucky student, contracted an incurable disease?

"Komaeda-kun!"

Nagito's eyes shot open at the sound of his name, and immediately felt confused. Why would someone be calling for him?

Soon, a familiar face entered Nagito's line of sight. It was the ultimate nurse, Mikan Tsumiki. Was he dreaming? There's no way the timid girl would come see him, she shouldn't have even known he was there. Yet, here she was, standing over him with a worried expression.

"K-Komaeda-kun, why didn't you t-tell me? I-I could've helped you get better, I could've..." Mikan trailed off, her eyes pooling with tears. "I-I'm so sorry!"

"Ts-Tsumiki...chan? Why are you-" Before Nagito could finish his sentence, he stopped, hearing footsteps entering the room. Slowly, he turned his head towards the door, and couldn't hold back a small gasp.

Chiaki, Kazuichi, Gundham, Sonia, Ibuki, Nekomaru, and the rest of his class had come to see him. He was shocked- why did they come? The only one who knew about his illnesses was Chisa, their teacher. Why then....

Nagito's eyes traveled across to each person, and stopped on Chisa. He looked at her expectantly, knowing she's the only one who could've done this. She gave him a small, sad smile, and nodded.

"Why..." Nagito said quietly, his gaze again wandering to each person. "Why... are you all... you all here?" He asked, his speech faltering.

"Because you're a part of our class, Komaeda-kun." Chiaki answered, her expression soft.

If possible, Nagito was even more shocked. "But... I'm just... useless trash... you shouldn't be...." He trailed off, his voice fading.

"You're not trash Komaeda-kun, you're my precious student." Chisa stated, stepping closer to the bed. "You shouldn't have to be alone, especially not now."

Now, Nagito was realizing that many of his classmates looked genuinely concerned. The sick boy wished he was still able to form full, coherent sentences, so he could tell them how this strange, amazing feeling was blossoming inside him, and how at the same time, he hated that they were worried about him. These were ultimates, they were capable of so much, they would have such a great impact on the world, and yet... here they all were, only focused on him.

"I thought... you all hated... me..." Nagito's voice was shallow, and lacked the life it once had.

"Of course you're annoying as all hell, but that doesn't mean any of us wanted this." Kazuichi simply replied.

A weak smile made its way onto Nagito's face, and he felt Chisa gently grip his limp hand. He looked up at her face, seeing that a few tears were now rolling down her cheeks. It was no question to Nagito that she was the one who made everyone come.

"Thank... you...." Nagito muttered softly and sincerely. The boy now was able to pinpoint the emotion growing inside of him. He felt loved, something he was unfamiliar with, and hadn't felt for years.

Before, Nagito would've been upset that in his life, he'd never been able to experience ultimate hope. But now, with his classmates around him, and his loving teacher by his side, Nagito couldn't be happier.

He didn't have to die alone.
