The last person he wanted to see or even be around was Scarlett. He had hated her every since eighth when she outed him to the whole school. Some people seemed to be okay with it but he had lost a lot of friends that day. He wanted to come out when he was at least in highschool, when more people were accepting to the fact of someone being gay. He was glad that his closet friends hadn't treated him differently but some people on his track team started to avoid being around him.
He felt isolated, he wanted to quit the team but his coach wouldn't allow it. He knew that Matt had a lot of potential, if he only found a way to control himself when he's on the track.
“Hi.”
“Yeah, no bye.” He said looking in his bag for his glasses.
“Will you just listen? I know we got off on a bad foot but I'm sorry.” She apologized.
“You mean when you told the entire school that I was gay and have my friends hate me. Sorry doesn't take away the pain, ridicule and bullshit I went through.” He said wiping his glasses on his shirt.
“I know I can't change the past, but I'm really sorry.”
“Well, it's to late to apologize.” He said coping down the notes on the board.
He shook his head and put in his headphones, that was the one thing he loved about Mr. Anderson's class. He would teach for a five minutes and the rest of the class was basically taking notes. It was only the first day of school, so it wasn't like he was going to miss anything important. I was starting to doze off a but when I felt my phone go off in my pocket. He smiled when he realized that he had gotten a text from Grayson.
Graysken🙉: You really should be paying attention.
Matt: Why we never learn anything?
Graysken🙉: Because he's been calling your name for the past minute or so.😂
“Shit.” He mumbled taking out one of his ear buds.
“As I asked before Mr. Benson, pass forward your summer reading.”
“Oh, sorry Mr. Anderson. Here it is.” He said handing him the writing assignment.
“You do so well in my class if you actually paid attention.”
“It's only the first day, lighten up.” He said leaning back in his chair.
“Maybe time in the hall will give you a chance to fix your attitude.” Mr. Anderson said pointing towards the door.
He shrugged and grabbed his things, putting them back into his backpack. He didn't think he had had an attitude but Mr. Anderson had it out for him every since seven. ‘You'd think after teaching for long he would have retired by now’ he thought to himself as he put his glasses back in their case.
“It's not like I'll missed anything.” He mumbled as he walked out of the classroom.
Mr. Anderson told him to sit down on the floor until class ended but Matthew wasn't feeling that. As soon a Mr. Anderson closed the door, he flipped him off and walked down the hallway. He took this as an opportunity to go to his locker and put his stuff away. He took out his schedule and tried to figure out where his locker was located. He let out a sigh of relief and ran his fingers through his hair as he put in his locker combination.
As he was hanging his backpack up on the hook, he heard someone lean against the locker next to his. He rolled his eyes laughing slightly as he caught a glimpse of his best friend.
“Shouldn't you be in class?”
“Shouldn't you?” He questioned.
“Actually we were just heading to the library to check out our textbooks.” Ethan said pointing to his classmates that were coming down the stairs.
He smiled and closed his locker, “Well good luck with that.”
“You never answered my question.” Ethan said blocking him from walking away.
“I got kicked out.” He said shrugging slightly.
Ethan shook his head, “Your dad's going to kill when he finds out.”
He pinched the bridge of his nose, “ I'll just have to cross that bridge when I get there.”
“Just don't do anything stupid, I can't lose my best friend.” Ethan said slinging his arm around his shoulders.
Matthew felt a chill run down his back as he walked down the hall with Ethan. He sighed looking down at the floor, because he knew Ethan didn't feel the same way. All he was, was his best friend and that's all he was ever going to be. Ethan looked down at his friend wondering why his whole attitude had changed in a matter of seconds. He bit his lip, trying to figure out a way to ask him what was wrong but decided to drop the subject all together.
“Name one time I've done something stupid?” He asked, going back to what they were talking about.
“You mean like the time when you ran down the street in your boxers, yelling a pink unicorn stole your clothes.”
“Like I said before, that was a dare.” He groaned, hiding his face.
“I know but it's funny to bring it up.”
“You can be such an ass sometimes.” Matthew said pushing Ethan's arm off of him.
“Ethan two, Matty one.” He whispered in Matthews ear, before walking ahead to join his class.
Matthew flipped him off and sat down at one of the tables outside of the library and went on his phone. He was about to go onto his Snapchat when someone covered his eyes from behind.
