Wondering

Once there lived a young girl by the name of Celeste, she lived in a humble home with her mother, father and young baby brother. Her life wasn't hard and her routine the same. Every morning she woke up and brought water in from the well, then she collected eggs from the chicken coup and brought them to her mother to prepare for morning meal. Soon after, a quick bath in the nearby river. And at night she would lay her head on a straw mattress in rest for the next day.

Her life wasn't monotonous though, every other day her best friend Sarah would come and deliver a special package. Each time it was something different, one day it was a small wooden doll for her baby brother and the next it was a jar of strawberry jelly. Might I add it was Celeste's favorite. Sarah was special in the best way possible, and Celeste loved her for it. She was derived from all the others and stood out the most.

One day as Sarah was giving Celeste a small bouquet of flowers for Celeste's mother, for she knew how her mother loved them so. Sarah asked a very peculiar question.

"Celeste?"

"Yes?" Celeste replied. Sarah wasn't one to ask questions so this came as a surprise to her.

"Do you ever wonder what it's like out there?" And Sarah pointed to the woods and beyond. The woods that were forbidden to everyone but the hunters and the wild animals who lived within. But no one knew what really layed beyond since of course it was forbidden to all. Sarah gave a look of longing out towards the thick green.

Celeste gave a small sigh "I do in fact, I wonder what it would be like. If there are other people outside of our small town. But alas I sit here in the same place for the last 15 years." She ran her hand through her long black raven hair then gave a sigh of exasperation. "But I guess this is what I am meant to do." She gave a measly motion to the small farm around her.

All was silent for a few moments before Sarah spoke up. "No." She shook her head in disagreement. "I don't believe it, it is not possible for two girls like ourselves. It's wrong and void. None should live such a life. You must have some type of chaos or excitement or a life is not worth living and that would be treacherous." Celeste just gave a sad smile as she looked at her friend, Sarah was hopeful, very hopeful. But, Celeste knew that there was no hope of leaving her drab life.
