<Picture above of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York>
Henry Tudor, also called Henry VII came to the throne after a several decade long battle, known as the War of the Roses or the Cousin's War, in England. The fight was between two factions of a family, the Yorks and the Lancasters. Henry VII was from the Lancastrian side of the family, and after he won at the Battle of Bosworth he married the York princess, Elizabeth, daughter of Edward IV to try to appease the surviving Yorks and York supporters. Even though Henry had married Elizabeth the Yorks and their supporters were not satisfied, especially because she held no actual power.
Since Henry still had to deal with unrest in England, it was nearly impossible for him to also deal with foreign problems as well. The French were a particular problem for him. To try and stop the French from attacking, or at least deter the from doing so he made an alliance with Spain. Part of the alliance included the agreement that he would marry his eldest child and son Arthur Prince of Whales to the king and queen of Spain's youngest daughter Catalina Infanta de Castilla, or known in England as Catherine of Aragon.
And that is where our story begins.
