I waited for the bus to show up to my house like every morning. It was 7:48 am. They were suppose to be at my house at 7:50.
I sat and stared out my window anxiously. I listened for that familiar hum of the engine. I sat in silence. The sun was just starting to rise. It was late November so all the leaves were off the trees and the grass was dead.
The rays of the sunshine made the earth glow with the pretty colors. I finally heard the rumbling of the engine after sitting for a couple of minutes in silence. I ran outside and I stood at the end of my driveway.
The big yellow vehicle stopped in front of me and the doors opened up revealing my bus driver Linda. She smiled a warm smile at me. She had grey hair and droopy skin. She was a small, old woman, about in her mid 70's.
I stepped onto the stairs and I found my seat towards the back of the bus. I sat down and put in my earbuds to block out the rattle of the engine.
I saw my best friend, Catherine, sitting in the seat across from mine. I smiled at her and she waved. I looked out my window and I waited for us to pick up our last student.
I was the second to last to get on the bus. As I stared out the window, I watched as a group of clouds covered the earth slowly like a blanket, blocking out the sun. It started to rain and the window that i was looking out of was starting to steam up from me breathing on it.
The sunny sky was now a dark, rainy one. I looked down and changed the song to a Taylor Swift song from back when she was a country singer.
¨Back to December¨ started to blast in my earbuds. I turned it down so I was loud enough it would block out any noises the world made, but I could still hear myself think.
I stared out the window and I saw that we were coming up on a bridge.
I heard a loud ¨honk¨ coming from a vehicle in front of us. In front of us was a semi, which happened to be coming straight at us in our lane.
The bus driver swerved out of the way but do to slickness of the road, we ended up going off the side of the bridge, into a creek twenty feet below. We hit the ground hard. And I started to black out.
