Generation Why

This is dissatisfaction at its surliest state.

Empty lapses of time echo;

we must fill them instead

with a necessitous passing of time.

But these things are meaningless.

These are platinum manifestations,

hollow metal coconuts. If you split them in

two, part them in your palms,

you won’t find the milk of what you’re looking for.

Here is my burning question:

why can’t I taste anything anymore?

For years, I’ve lived in a world full of flavors,

and here I am now with dysfunctional tastebuds.

Here is my burning question:

What now?

This is my only question.

What now?

We’re so frightened of the mundane

that we kill ourselves just to feel magic,

even if it’s dark stuff.

This we know: there is majesty in masochism.

Is this what we’re meant to be?

A generation of destroyers,

working from the inside out.

We are what fate prescribed.

For a new world order: take 2 daily after meals.

But if fate didn’t prescribe it,

then this is a man-made “cure”

and it’s true that green tea

is more effective than chemotherapy.

It’s clear what I need:

a distraction, and wisdom for tranquility,

because knowing isn’t a possibility.

And if this is the fault of our own,

what we truly need is mercy.
