noun
a painful or horrific experience, especially a protracted one.

Delilah Bree wasn't anticipating the rain that thundered from the ragging black clouds covering the whole sky from the previously clear night. She wished vehemently for her car to be fixed by the next day since she had already spent way to long without the vehicle.

Delilah pulls her hood further down her face as the lights illuminating her street came into view. She sights as the darkness and gloom of the night causes her slender legs to push faster against the pavement as she somewhat ran in her high heels.

"I have to invest in some converse." She mumbles discretely to herself as she releases her glare from the ground as a loud shriek of rubber irritates her ears, looking up she is met with a horrifying scene. A young women was crossing the main road, she seemed to be struggling as she attempts to successfully push the stroller onto the other side of the street.

However the sight of the frail women didn't alarm her as much as the car that was racing towards the fragile red head. The vehicle raced at full speed, the rubber of the wheels creating shouts against the otherwise calm night. Delilah was sure the car wasn't going to stop in time.

Without a second though Delilah springs into action, following her instincts. She didn't know if the women would break out of her weak state and push the baby stroller to safety or if the frail women would resume her silken position. Not caring of the consequences, Delilah ran onto the road where she pulls the baby stroller from the women.

Delilah pushes the stroller onto the sidewalk before turning around to help the women. Delilah wished deeply she hadn't looked, the women smiles tearfully at the young girl that was reaching towards her just as the car runs right into the innocent women.

Delilah screams as she falls on her back. Starring with her eyes wide open as the car crashes against the nearest building.

And just than, like a lightning bolt, Delilah snaps out of her thoughts with a panic. Her heart was racing from the adrenaline of her daydream. It was the fifth time she had that vision in two weeks. She wasn't sure if she needed therapy after the constant reminders of the horrifying night all those days ago.

Delilah pushes herself away from her seat beside her large window as she paddles quietly and with slight alarm out of her room and into the room right beside her where inside a tiny white baby crib laid a sleeping eight month old. Delilah doesn't walk into the dark room since she had no intention of waking up the sound asleep baby, she only stares sadly at the child as he sleeps.

The young twenty four year old thinks back to her day dream, it had been so vivid, and so dangerously true. The events of that night had played in her head in forms of nightmares and day dreams. It never went away. She was always reminded of the person she couldn't save from the wrath of death.

Delilah hated that she blamed herself for something that she didn't have control over. However no matter how much she pep talked herself, she still couldn't get over that night. The night where she saw an innocent die, the night which she wouldn't ever forget. The night that changed her life forever.

Delilah didn't know what she was thinking when she took the newly orphaned child home with her as his foster mother. She had felt a responsibility after the events of that night, she had been feeling guilty that the baby's mother had a chance of living if only she had acted quicker. However, as Delilah walked up the steps of her mothers home, she wished she had came with a better conclusion.
