The accident

“Franny come on!” I pleated while tugging on her arm. I had just spotted our favorite basketball team, The British Barbarians. We raced to the escalator. Then, just as I was about to get on, a crowd came. Not caring who they bumped or ran into, they just kept moving forward. I stood there, right smack in the center of their path and started at them. “Micheal, come on!” screamed Franny from the escalator. I looked up at her. The next thing I knew I was thrown at it. My foot became logged in between the step and the wall. I could feel the steel digging deep into my foot, slicing through my sandal. I could feel my flesh tearing and being cut.

“AHHH!” I screamed in pain. I looked up at Franny with tears flooding my eyes. My vision was growing dark; the whole world was becoming a fuzzy blob. Franny was down at my side now. Blood covered her face, her hands, and her body. “Stop the escalator! Stop it!” screamed Franny. I was completely blind now all I could do was listen and cry silent tears of pain. “Were losing her!” somebody screamed. Now my hearing was fading. I tried to move to tell people I was still with them but all it did was make the grinding sound louder. Suddenly a warm liquid splattered on my neck, my back, my face, the backs of my barren legs, and on the ankle of my now numb left foot.

Then my hearing left me, I struggled to breath but the steps made it hurt. Then my feeling left me. All of a sudden I was surrounded by white. MY grandmother appeared and walked over to me. I ran to her and gave her a hug. “Hello Micheal” she whispered softly. Her voice sounded faded and washed out. Grandma suddenly turned around and faded with one last warm smile. Than my uncle Steve appeared. “What is a fine young lady like you doing here?” he asked me. I smiled at him. “I don’t know” I replied. Then his smile faded ever so slowly. “Micheal, this isn't the place for you, It will be but not now, not for the next 81 years, not until your 92.”He said in a rather harsh voice. “You must go, you can’t stay here.” He waved his hand and a portal appeared. “What's happening?” I asked. “You'll find out in time my dear Micheal but as for now I need you to promise me something,” He said.

“Anything,” I replied. “Tell your father I have failed and that I’m sorry. That I have failed my country, but to still keep hopes because no matter what he can't let this crush him. Also tell Lillian to set one less plate at dinner because the extra will never be used. Tell her that I’m not coming back. Last of all tell katliyn to get good grades, stay in school and to make her daddy proud.” He said with tears dripping down in puddles from his checks. “I will” I said solemnly, and I walked through the portal. Within the next few hours I went in and out. I started off with Franny staring down at me, blood covering her face, neck and shirt. A nurse was at her side with a rag trying to clean her up.

The next time I woke up I was looking at a doctor and was hearing Franny scream “No! I'm not going anywhere! She needs me and I need her!” “Calm down” said a nurse. “They're just going to clean her up and give her some blood since half of hers is on you” joked the nurse. Franny screamed and kicked and screeched. The next time I was looking my mom strait in the face. I Stayed up a while and talked to her and my dad. “Dad” I said. “Hum” he murmured. “Um Uncle Steve wanted me to tell you this,” I said. “Oh well where did you see Uncle Steve at? he's off fitting in the army at the moment.” asked my dad. “In the light” I told him. My dad looked shocked. My mom stumbled back and collapsed into a chair, dumbfounded.

“He said, I have failed and that I’m sorry. That I have failed my country, but to still keep hopes because no matter what he can't let this crush him” I mimicked my uncles word precisely. “Does this mean he's dead?” asked my dad. I shook my head. “What am I going to tell Lilly?” he asked my mother. “Nothing,” I said. “For he has left a message for her and katliyn too.” Then Franny burst in. she looked around, saw me gawking at her blood splattered clothes, then saw my parents and left. After a while my parents left and I decided to go to bed. It was night and tomorrow would be a day full of sadness, drama and poking sharp things into me to keep me alive.
