THREE YEARS LATER
It's been three years since I'd signed up for the army. Soon I'd be choosing which branch to join; The Survey Corps, The Garrisons, or the Military Police. But that all depended on wether I got in the top ten or not, but I had a feeling I was probably gonna choose the Survey Corps.
Throughout those three years the entire squad had become very close. We trusted everyone, especially Reiner. Armin and I had also become very close, through our love of books, and geology.
The whispers hushed as the instructor cleared his throat.
"All right Cadets, listen up! The top ten graduates of the 104th trainees squad are..."
10- Christa Renz
9- Sasha Braus
8- Connie Springer
7- Marco Bodt
6- Jean Kirschtien
5- Eren Jaeger
4- Annie Leonhardt
3- Bertholdt Fubar
2- Reiner Braun
1- Mikasa Ackerman
I didn't make the top ten...
Grace and Leah gasped to my right. I seemed as though they were planning on joining the the Military Police with Jean and Marco. Armin was stood on my left. He sighed, a slow shaky breath outwards. I reached to my side and grasped his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"However, the following Trainees have exemplary skills in other ways.
Armin Arlert, excels in logistics.
Corina Barrett, excels in Titan anatomics.
Leah Lightwood, excels in leadership.
Sophia Braus, excels in medical support.
Kaydi Braun, excels in tactics.
Grace Bartowski , excels in logistics.
Nicole Bartowski , excels in emotional support.
Well at least I'm living up to what Uncle Lucas taught me. I found my group if friends later at the celebratory party. Sophia, Sasha, Connie, Kaydi, Reiner and Bertholdt, Grace, Leah and Marco were all drinking Trost beer and laughing. I slided over to them and found myself laughing too.
When we returned our attention back to the main crown, Eren and Jean were fighting. Again. Mikasa and Armin were watching from the side. Marco excused himself to split Jean away from the brown haired boy. I rolled my eyes, and decided to grab a mug of beer, the finest Trost beer. (I don't actually know what they're called so a mug it is) Trost were very well known for their alcoholic beverages, they also produced some of the best whiskey around, my dad would often drink it.
I took one and studied the amber liquid. "Oh hey, you're about to have your first beer!" Leah plonked herself across from me, followed by Sophia, Kaydi, Grace and Nicole, so the six of us filled a bench.
I nodded lifting the mug up to my lips and taking a big swig. Bad idea. I swallowed it too quickly and spluttered because of the taste, which left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. "Ah jeez..." I dragged my hand through my hair, and stated down into the mug. I wiped mouth, and took another, smaller sip, swilling it around my mouth to get myself used to the taste.
"Our two last days as trainees starts now. I can't believe it's been three years already. What branch are you gonna go to?" I asked.
"I'm going wherever Sasha goes. Unless that's the military police." Sophia smiled, looking over at her sister who currently had a whole bread roll stuffed halfway in her mouth.
"We're sticking together too." Grace and Nicole said in sync, slinging an arm around each others shoulders.
"I don't know what I would do if I would and Reiner wouldn't be there to help me... I'm sticking with him and Bertholt." Kaydi nodded.
"The Survey Corps." Leah said quietly.
'Me too."
"I'm gonna miss Marco..." She said, barely above a whisper.
Sophia frowned, "Hey, you never know, he might change his mind."
"Yeah..."
***
"Wow really, we have to clean the canons?" The next day, we were made to go to the top of the wall of the Trost district and clean the canons.
"Yeah." I pushed the cleaning stick into the hole and pulled it back out.
With me was Leah, Nicole, Grace, Kaydi, Sophia, Connie, Sasha, Eren and a few others.
"Sasha! Oh my god what did you do?" Sophia looked really confused as Sasha was grinning gleefully. She produced a slab of cooked ham from inside her jacket. "I stole this from the officers place. I was thinking when we were done with this we could slice it up, eat it with some bread."
Everyone hesitated for a moment, before all agreeing that we all wanted some, apart from Sophia who passed on the meat.
I returned to cleaning the canons, when I heard Eren monolouging to himself.
"Five years have passed since then. Mankind's finally regaining its dignity. We can win. Mankind's counter attack begins now!"
Suddenly, there was a bright flash of yellow light, and hot air whipped all around us. When the dust had settled and the wind had calmed, we all turned behind us to see...
The Colossal Titan...
I stared at it, its huge head poking over the wall, completely skinless, It's red muscles and white ligaments were showing. I would have vomited if I wasnt to shocked. My mouth was hanging open, eyes wide. Eren was the first to react, gasping, before another, more powerful blast of hot air as it kickd the wall in, blew us all off the top of the wall.
We all deployed our manouver gear, to stop us from falling all the way down. Our feet now firmly planted on the wall, we wached as Sasha sprinted down the wall to catch Samuel, as he fell down. She eneded up having to spear him though the leg with her manouver gear.
Beside me, Eren was muttering angrily. I just managed to make out the words "Every... fucking... one..."
"Ready the artillery! Four groups!" He pulled his blades from the holder and shouted "Prepare for battle!" before using his 3DMG to swing back to the top of the wall.
I stayed planted safely on the wall, to stunned to move. None of us followed him up.
He wasnt really going to... engage in battle with the Colossal Titan... Was he?
We watched in horrror as the Colossal Titan wiped out the canons... It posseses intelligence? But we thought none of the titans were intelligent... Should we class is as an abberant (That means it behaves differently to the other titans) becuase it doesnt seem to be taking any intrest is Eren either?
"Hey! Come on we need to move!" Connie kicked me in the leg, offsetting my balance and I slipped, both feet off the wall. I released my wires, letting myself fall down, deciding on a safe distance I could jump from and not get hurt.
When I was safely back on the ground, I ran away from the wall, because chunks of rock kept falling and falling. I ran and ran until I was breathless and then some. I arrived back at the HQ and collapsed on my knees heaving for breath.
