"Here we are!" my step mom squeals in delight when we arrive. I climb out of the car. After the 4 hour plane ride and 1 hour drive I was glad to stretch.
It looks exactly like it did on the brochures and online. The buildings are old and elegant at the same time. And the architecture is amazing. The size of the campus is intimidating but I hope that after a few weeks I will feel at home. The orientation is short and I sit alone, as usual. A short middle aged women hands me my dorm key and sends me on my way. This is the most freedom I've felt in 19 years.
"I want to see your dorm room before we leave you," my step mother wipes her eyes, careful not to mess up her makeup. "I can't believe it! My only daughter going off to college!"
Technically you're not my mother, I think.
"It's B22 we are in C hall . . ." I mutter.
Luckily I see a large B painted on a nearby building. "This way," I instruct them and they follow. Thankfully I only brought a few clothes, a blanket, and my favorite books so my dad didn't have to carry a lot.
"B22," my step mom grumbles. She wore way to high of heels for this long of a walk. Finally we arrive. I slide the key into the wooden door and it creaks open, she gasps. The room is small with two desks and two beds. My eyes travel to why my mom gasped. Sitting on one of the beds was a girl with brown hair tied with feathers, several piercings in her ears and a small one on her nose, and clothes that I would never wear. She stood up. She was wearing really short shorts and a loose top that revealed a lot of skin.
"Hi I'm Piper," the girl smiled and walked over to me. She hugged me, I was surprised by her friendliness but hugged her back.
"I'm Annabeth," I said.
"Welcome to WSU where the dorms are small and the parties are huge," she laughed and I awkwardly smiled, not sure what to do. My step moms mouth hangs open and my father awkwardly shifts his weight.
There is a knock on the door. My father drops my bags.
"Come in!" yells my roommate. Two boys walk in the dorm. Boys on the first day of college? Maybe WSU was a bad decision. My step mom looks like she is going to pass out.
The blonde boy looks over at me. He doesn't have as many tattoos as the other guy, but he has enough. "You Pipes roomie?" He asks.
"Uhh . . . Yeah I'm Annabeth."
"I'm Jason you'll love it here," he smiles. His smile is warm and inviting, despite his harsh appearance.
My eyes shift over to the black haired guy. His hair is shorter on the sides and pushed up towards the top, messily. He has metal in his eyebrow an lip. My eyes travel over his black tank top, numbers of tattoos cover his arms and everywhere else I can see, except for half his neck and face. I wait for him to introduce himself, but he doesn't. He obviously isn't as nice as Jason.
"You ready?" He asks Piper. His voice is husky and surprisingly appealing. I shake that thought from my head.
"See you around Annabeth," Jason says as they walk out of the door.
"You are getting a new dorm!" my step mother says as soon as the door closes.
"It's fine, I'm sure they won't be around anyway," I say.
"Absolutely not! We are getting a new dorm with a girl who does not allow boys to enter her room!"
"Let's just see how it goes, please. If I don't like it we'll get a new dorm."
"Fine," she spits, much to my surprise.
