"What is your happy place like?" Brett asked her one day out of the blue.

Rhynn arched an eyebrow at him, taking a sip of her Mountain Dew. "I beg your pardon?"

"Your happy place. You know, where your mind goes when it wanders, or to feel protected. Mine is my house... kind of. Its my ideal version of my house, you know, without my mom or alcohol but with all the books I could want and you."

"Oh. I guess I never... really thought about it. My mind wanders to storylines, or to characters. See, putting characters in the room with me and deciding what they would do in this situation or that helps me when I use them later on in stories, because I tend to either fictionalise real life events, or it just helps me to develop that character more."

"That's... actually really cool." Brett laughed, blue eyes shining. "Will you do something for me?"

"Uh, sure."

"Okay, close your eyes."

Rhynn blinked at him, squinting her eyes. "Why?"

"Because I want you to visualise something."

"I visualise better with my eyes open."

"Just... humour me? Please?"

"Ugh, fine." Rhynn petulantly shut her eyes, sticking out her tongue at the boy. "Like this?"

He chuckled. "Yeah, that's perfect. Now, imagine somewhere that you would feel really comfortable and at peace, like, a library, or a bar, whatever that is to you."

"Okay...."

"Can you describe it to me?"

Rhynn huffed a laugh. "It... it's stupid, but, ever since I was a little kid, I've wanted this... reading nook, you know, with bookshelf lined walls and a small bench type thing underneath a window that's piled with blankets and pillows, really cozy. Fairy lights are strung up here and there, and... I dunno, it's just really... nice."

Brett grinned. "Okay. So, where are you in relationship to the bench?"

"I'm... kneeling on it. Looking out the window."

"What's out the window?"

"A field." she breathed, eyes drifting from her reflection to the world outside. "It's raining lightly, and there's a field of just... grass, and at the edge of the field is a forest. It's one of those that... It looks dark and mysterious, but it just intrigues me, and I want to explore it."

"What kind of trees does it have?"

"They vary. There are some evergreens, some oaks, some maple, some ash... It's just so..."

"You. It is so very you, darling."

Rhynn opened her eyes and was met with the sight of Brett's bright grin.

"You're welcome."

"For what?" she took another sip of her Mountain Dew, and gave him a confused look.

"That was your happy place, love."

"...Oh."

"Hey, I'm not saying you have to use it or anything, just... it might help, in the future, if you start to get really stressed out or anything."

"Hmm. Describe yours to me again?"

He gave her a smile and began to talk.
