---------Alex POV-------

I don't know what has gotten into me to go there on that alley again and more over, I don't know what made me kiss her. I never do things that don't make sense; my every action is calculated and has a purpose.

Groaning, I decided it is time to pay a visit to my girls in order to clear my mind, so I began walking towards the east side of the town. "My girls" were two prostitute twin siblings who knew what I was and would let me drink from their blood. Eve and Brenda were not afraid of me, but that's because the two of them were driven by lust and an increased taste for danger.

Why the girl from that rainy night didn't fear me, was a totally different story. She was emanating sadness; she seemed to be rather soft and naïve. There was no trace of any desire for dangerous things. Which is exactly what puzzles me: if she has no attraction towards danger, why wasn't she afraid of me? Thinking of her again stopped me from walking and I was staring into space in the middle of the road.

Enough. I wanted to see Eve and Brenda in order to get my mind off of the mysterious girl. I started walking again and thirty minutes later I was two blocks away from their place.

One year back, I managed to convince Eve and Brenda to stop being prostitutes and perform a real job as ballerinas. This happened after I saved them from a bastard who has almost beaten them to death. Then, the girls allowed me to drink from their blood, as a thank you for saving them and changing their lives for the better.

I enjoyed their company; most probably because it was the only company I would get. For the majority of my time I preferred staying in the shadows. I do not like it when people run screaming and I can't t keep my secret unobserved for a long time, so I avoided social interactions as much as possible.

My hand raised to the bell on the right side of the twin's apartment door. Eve opened it at the fourth ring and I noticed she was dressed in a silky white robe. She was a redhead while Brenda was a brunette; however, other than the color of their hair, the two were identical.

"Oh, Alex… what a surprise. Come on in." Eve beamed, making room for me to step into the apartment with red painted walls and creamed-colored furniture. "Brenda, guess who's here!" She screamed a moment later.

"Coming, coming…' Brenda's voice rang from the bedroom.

Eve and I made our way to the couch in silence. There wasn't much light from the windows coming in, so there was always a dim lighting created by the side laps on those dark red walls.

When Brenda joined us, Eve asked: "So what brings you here tonight?"

"Let's say I wasn't in the mood for hunting and… I needed some company."

"The need for blood I understand, but company? Since when do you feel the need for company? We thought you were a loner." Brenda piped in. I looked at her and answered: "I don't know…"

"Oh! You met someone, isn't it?" Eve concluded with a little more than necessary excitement.

"I don't understand. Why meeting someone would make me feel any different? Besides, I didn't actually meet anyone, I just bumped into her two or three times and I have no idea who she is."

"You like her and you have a soul. That's what makes you feel different." Brenda spoke.

"Who said I have a soul? I doubt that."

"You must have one, or else you wouldn't have been so kind to us."

"You are here to forget about her, aren't you? Eve said while shifting her position on the couch and bringing her hand to the back of my neck, playing with my hair. I nodded.
