Knowing that I didn't have a date to the masquerade ball was enough to dissuade me from all high school dances here on. I'd made up my mind not to show up, going as far as not ordering a dress for it. What was the point if I was just going to watch from the sidelines? I couldn't be that pitiable!

But as fate would have it, mummy dearest sent a dress last minute. I was sipping diet coke with Lois in the living room and watching celebrity gossip on E! when it was delivered.

It came in a huge box and I curiously tore open the package. The dress was sparkling  and wrapped in tissue. I cursed my rotten luck when I saw that the dress was an exact replica of Cinderella's dress from the fairytale. It was the same down to the fingerless gloves and glass slippers.

"How is this a Halloween costume? I'm still not going!" I huff.
"With a dress like that, you will be the belle of the ball. Everyone will flock to your side. I'll call my make up artist to do your hair and makeup if you agree to go. I'll ask him to dab blood all over you if it would make you feel better. Please you have to wear this dress!"

I finally caught on her enthusiasm and agreed. The ball is tomorrow, so I had today to prepare to pull it off.
"You know what this means then?" I whisper.
"Spa!" She exclaims and I giggle.

I hop into my brand new Lamborghini, gunning the engine and the car purred. I was yet to take it to school but I loved the way the sports car cruised down the road. Daddy had even let me upgrade the car stereo and I blast Nikki Minaj tracks, singing along when it gets to stupid whore.

I picture Peyton as I say the lines
"You a stupid ho, you a you a stupid ho, stupid stupid..."

I kill the engine and toss my curls when I alight. A guy whistles beside me and I turn to look at him. He looks familiar, I'll recognize that smile anywhere.
"Rowan!" I exclaim.

I'd made out with him at a party during summer break but never saw him again. He belonged to some up coming band that played at the party. Why must my life be filled with celebrities! I muse, remembering I'd just seen a picture of him on E! declaring him the latest Chris Brown on the scene.

"Okay I tried to find you after that party but you proved elusive." He says. One thing I loved most about Rowan was his sexy eyes. I could stare into those chocolate pools all day! "Where have you been!"
"Oh here and there." I reply coyly.

"You'll give me your digits before you disappear again right?" I roll my eyes and quickly type my number into his iPhone, sending myself a quick text to have his. "Neat!"
"So what brings you these parts?" I asks.
"My band has a gig tomorrow."
"You're still with them?" I ask

"Yeah. I pitch in when I can. One of the guys, Archer, he's our drummer, got the gig at his new school."
"Oh."

Why oh why was fate messing with me! It was bad enough that I lost Archer to that skank Peyton, but for him to be pals with Rowan, a guy with swoon worthy eyes and heart melting kisses? Why!

A text comes in from mummy dearest. 'Wear the dress tomorrow, don't disappoint me any further.' I groan and smile when Rowan shoulder bumps me. Lois's car pulls up besides mine, saving me from embarrassing myself.

"I'll see you at your 'gig' tomorrow." I say, making air quotes at the word gig. "It's my school too."
"Awesome, just look out for the guy with a sword sticking out his chest." He says. I summon a fake smile at the gory image his sentence presented.

I hurry to Lois and we walk towards the spa decked out with carved pumpkins and Halloween theme.
"My car trumps yours, booyah!" I squeal and she rolls her eyes. Her eyes dart back to Rowan and they widen
"Omg that's Rowan Randall, you were just talking to Rowan Randall. Damn, I dunno if I should be impressed or upset."

"First, no need to sound starstruck, you're pretty popular yourself. Also, why would you be upset, it's not like I'm giving up my v card to him. I know he's a player."
"V card?" She snorts. "Honey you don't expect me to believe that, do you!" She laughs as we enter the spa.

"You better believe it!" I say angrily, surprised she didn't believe me. I was waiting till eighteen.
"After Tucker and Sam, not leaving out Lance and his buddy Tyler. Come on girl, you don't fool me."

I decided not to argue with her. The truth was that I'd been with these guys, but I'd not been with them. I didn't expect her to understand, she'd married my dad at the peak of her career. I wasn't about to let some male limit me.
