"Travel far away, see the world and say, 'Yes, this is where I'd like to be.' Leave a note less then three. . . A sense of wonder kills his fear, driving west to disappear, his dreams grew brighter, they spark and burn, he will never return." – Social Repose

I don't know where I am. I don't know how I got here. It was a rash decision, and honestly I wasn't in a right state of mind when I made it.
My car was running on fumes by this point, so I pulled over in the parking lot of a nearby hotel and turned the ignition off. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to find that I had several missed calls and a couple of voicemails. I dialed the voicemail operator and listened to the first message.
My mother's voice filled the silence in the car, her voice was breaking and I could tell she was trying not to cry. I feel bad now about leaving that note on their bedside table last night, but I couldn't leave without saying goodbye.
I still had more voicemails to listen to but I didn't open them.
I had driven for about 2 hours until I got here to La Jolla. I had been here a couple times with my parents and my little brother Mike, but it had been ages.
People were walking around me, the crowded sidewalks in San Diego near the La Jolla Cove were nearly suffocating, so I walked off into the sandy area, and sat down on a little rock ledge overlooking the sea.
I sat there for a while, not really comprehending what I was seeing. My mind was elsewhere. It was like my body was on autopilot.
I stared out at the ocean, at how the water seemed to be stretching out forever in the distance; the waves were tumbling against each other, ultimately unfurling themselves when they met the shore and leaving a sort of sea foam behind.
Sometimes people would stop walking for a while, stretch and just stare out at their surroundings, once or twice their eyes would land on me and I would stare back for a moment before looking away.
Only one person registered on my mind that day, a raven haired boy. He and this other person (I can't remember if he had been with a guy or a girl) and they both sat on the other side of the rocky ledge. He sat down and the other person pulled out a guitar and started playing a tune, some song about sirens and how his heart belonged to the ocean. His voice went along well to the tune; it was a bit high pitched but soft at the same time.
A couple of times the raven haired boy would stare out at me and smile while he was singing, but I never smiled back. After a while they left and all that was left was the sound of the waves and the seagulls calling out to each other.
It was getting pretty late by the time that I pulled out of the stupor I was in. The sun was sinking on the horizon, and families were packing up, getting ready to head back home.
I stood up, dusted off my shorts and started walking back to where I had left my car. Only when I got there, I realized something was missing. I couldn't tell what it was at first, but to me it just didn't look complete. When I opened to door to the drivers seat I noticed a gaping hole where my stereo had been.
Great, fantastic, absolutely wonderful. They stole my car radio.
I closed the door and just sat there in my car, scowling at the empty hole where my car radio should have been, but then I realized that it wasn't the cars fault so I caressed the area before putting the key in the ignition and turning it.
The car didn't turn on, so I tried once again with the same results. I got out of my car and opened up the hood. When I lifted it up I realized why my car wasn't starting. I mean it's kinda hard to start a car when y'know, it has no battery.
Somebody had stolen my car battery as well.
I pulled my phone out and quickly searched up junkyards, but all of them were closed by this time.
I shot one last reproachful look towards my car before closing it up and making my way towards a nearby hotel.
This day can't get any better, can it?
