what is "beauty?"
how do we define it?
beau-ty: noun. a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.
but no, that's not quite right.
yes, it's right. technically.
but beauty is so much more than aesthetics.
beauty is realizing you've fallen in love
beauty is the first flower of spring, the first snowfall of winter, the first fallen leaf of autumn, the first buzz of a bumble bee in the summer
beauty is laughing at nothing at all until you're in tears, and beauty is a shoulder to cry on
beauty is the moment when you don't hurt over the painful thing in your life anymore
beauty is the happiest memory of a lost loved one, telling their stories and living on for them
beauty is your favorite song playing in the most unexpected place
beauty is dancing when no one's watching, singing in the shower, casually slipping your favorite line from a movie into casual conversation and smiling at your own joke
beauty is others, coming together to do something right
beauty is blocking out the hate and soaking in the love and letting the good things wipe away the bad
beauty is a clean car, a shiny city, a perfectly ripe apple, a willow tree shimmering above a lake, a cat making friends with a dog, hearing a stranger's name for the first time, a first kiss, a last kiss, a play that makes you laugh and a musical that brings you to tears, a cold drink on a warm day, a hot drink on a cool day
it's every season, every color, everything "new" and everything "old"
beauty is so much more than aesthetics
it's a sound, a flavor, a scent, a passion
there's beauty in everything around us, and it's time we recognized all of them
the beautiful things.
