Connor kept insisting that he skip Vidcon to help me pack. It took forever, but I finally convinced him to go. We showered together, washing each other’s bodies; Laughing as we threw bubbles at each other playfully. The only time I am ever this happy is when I sing. We both changed quickly. He had to go at 11:20, but he didn’t actually go until 11:30 because we couldn’t pull ourselves together enough to say goodbye. Once he finally left, I burst into tears. He was the best thing I had. He was so nice, so caring, so sweet, so handsome, and I just lost him. I start to finish up packing when I hear myself singing ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles. I answer the phone, with a muffled hello,

“Hello? Ashley?” I think its Connor.

“Connor? Is that you?” I say.

“Yes, Ashley I can’t stop thinking about you. I can’t stop crying. I love you.” He says. I start crying again. He hears me and calms me down.

“Connor, I love you so much. I can’t live without you.” I reply hazily.

“Babe, you’re going to miss your flight, call me when you land. We will figure this out. I promise.” He says. I agree with him and I keep driving to the airport. I cry the whole way there. I don’t know what else to do! I love him so much.

I get off the plane and call Connor right away. We can only talk for a few minutes because he only gets a 10 minute break. I call him while I’m getting into my car to go home. As soon as we hang up I start to bawl. I can barely see the road I’m crying so hard. He lives in California with some of the other O2L boys, and I live in Colorado. That’s thousands of miles away! Maybe I’ll save up my money and visit him for spring break or something? I have no idea. Instead of getting all worked up, I turn on the radio. Royals by Lorde is on. That’s the song that Connor told me to sing for my video at Vidcon. I quickly switch the channel before I get worked up again. It’s some One Direction song. Kiss you I think? I start to sing along to the lyrics.

I get home about an hour and a half later. I have to get ready quickly for the family reunion. I throw on a pair of boot-cut jeans, a tight fitting, grey sweater, a pink necklace, and a pair of uggs. I text my dad that I’m on my way.

Hey,   I text Connor

“Hey I have something to ask you…” He says

Yeah?

It takes him 20 minutes to reply. I start to get worried.

“When is your birthday? What is your favorite color? Favorite candy? Favorite drink?”

I didn’t realize that I was getting a survey… hahaha

August 29, purple, snickerz, lemonade.

“I want to get to know you better, we didn’t really do much talking when we were together if you know what I mean;)”

Haha very true, go ahead. Ask away. But when you’re done, I want to ask you some questions… J, I reply.

“KK! Give me a second…”

“Okay… Here goes!

1.    What do you like to do in your free time?

2.    Favorite song

3.    Favorite food

4.    Do you like coffee or starbucks?

5.    Do you speak any languages

6.    Any siblings?

7.    Want Kids?

8.    When did you first discover me?

9.    When did you start singing

10.                       Do you like cats?”

It takes me a few minutes to answer.

1.    Sing

2.    Not sure, I like a lot of songs.

3.    Soup!!

4.    I love coffee! I go to starbucks all the time!!!!

5.    French and English

6.    Older brother and younger sister

7.    Yes!!!!!

8.    I discovered you when I was 16, I started doing videos because of you

9.    I have been singing my whole life

10.                       YES!

After that, we had something to talk about for the rest of the time he was on break. When he had to go, I got sad again. Either way, I had to go to this stupid family reunion. I didn’t want to be there, I wanted to be with Connor!

I get to the house that we are having the reunion at, and there are cars lining both sides of the street. Its 8:00 now, and it’s starting to get a little shady. That whole night was just a blur. I didn’t really talk to anybody. Everyone wanted to know how the whole YouTube thing was working out for me. See, my parents are really the only people out of the family that support me, the rest of the family thinks it some sort of joke, a way for me to spend my free time. I take my singing more seriously than school. I have a 4.0 GPA. Most of my family are either doctors or lawyers. They think I will ‘never get a good job by singing’. Screw them.

Chapter 11.

At about 9 I decided to call Connor and see if he was back from Vidcon yet. I dial the number and it rings 4 times. I’m starting to get worried, I don’t know why, I just am. It goes to voicemail.

“Hey! Its Connor! I can’t get to the phone right now, leave a message!” it says.

“Hey Connor, its Ashley. I miss you so much… I was just calling to say hi and to talk for a little bit. If you have time call me ok? Thanks. Love you” I say into the phone. As I’m saying this my mom walks by.

“Who are you calling missy?! You should be with your family!” she barks.

“Mom, I’m kind of seeing this guy. His name is Connor Franta, and he’s really sweet and nice. We met at Vidcon, he also does YouTube videos.” I say… My mom is worse than my dad when it comes to boys. She thinks they are going to like rape me whenever I look at them.

“Where does this boy live? Will I get to meet him? Is he safe?” she asks me in return.

“He lives in California, I don’t know, and yes mom. He’s safe. I really, really like him mom. More than I have liked anyone in my life.” I know that this is a touchy topic for my mom, so I am just treading lightly for right now. It takes her a minute to process all the information that has just entered her head. I wait silently.

“Let me talk to you father about this missy. Now go spend time with your family.”
