We took Noah back avoiding India completely and making sure she wasn’t brought up in any convocation. He seemed to be okay when we dropped so we started to head back to our houses. We walked in silence which was peaceful but Zac started off convocation, “So, can I ask you a question? And please don’t think I’m a really nosey person even though I am!” I laughed.
“Sure, don’t worry I’m really nosey as well.” He seemed to calm down when I told him that.
“Oh, okay, thank god. Umm... So... I just wondered why you were singing down on the beach. I’m just asking because you seemed a little distressed and angry shall we say. I was just worried.” It was nice that he noticed and cared. I was starting to really feel like I could trust him like I did with Noah.
“Ah. Well I just found out that my dad seemed to have moved on and forgotten about my mum. He doesn’t even talk about her; he’s taken down all the photos of them together in his bedroom and in the living room.” I started feeling angry again. I was soon calmed down by his warming voice.
“I think your dad has those photos in a secret place and he will never forget your mum. Some people have different ways of moving on, I mean the person he’s dating, have you ever met her before?” I shook my head. “See she might be really nice like a new best friend, she will never replace your mum and if you feel like she is then just tell your dad. And I think that maybe he might find it hard to talk to you about your mum,” He made everything make sense.
“You might be right, thank you. You’re a really good friend.” I smiled at him and he smiled back. We were at the end of his drive way and were drawn to a halt.
“Hey my mum makes the most amazing brownies and the kitchens been installed, she’s probably made a fresh batch today. Do you want come in?”
I was so intrigued in what they had made the house into so I accepted his offer. “Sure.” He walked me up to the front of his house, and let me in. It wasn’t what I expected at all, I thought it would be messy and there would be clutter everywhere wallpaper pealing and tools all over the place. I couldn’t of been more wrong. It was spotless the walls were clean and on wall paper all painted, surf boards and skim boards were on every wall in sight. It was like my dream house, each door had a beach house theme and all of the furniture was odd wood all different colours nothing matched but it all went with the theme of the house. I couldn’t help but say, “This is so... cool, I love this house.” Zac who was in front of me stopped and turned around and had huge smug look on his face.
“Sorry what was that? You love what?” He was making fun of me and always does; I just had to go along with it. “Liv what do you love? I couldn’t make it out, what’s so cool?” I laughed for some reason Zac could make me happy in the hardest times.
“Okay, Okay I get it, your house isn’t a rat infested hell hole. But it WAS!” he laughed and led me into his surf sand kitchen it wasn’t modern it was kind of the opposite but it was so cosy I couldn’t focus on one thing. In the corner was Zac’s mum, Jess, who was turning the oven off. He was right she had just made a batch of delicious smelling brownies.
“Hey mum you alright?” Zac asked he seemed to have a really close relationship with his mum and it was nice to see. “Liv’s come round for the evening is that okay?” As soon as she heard my name she swivelled round and looked at me with a big smile.
“Oh hi Liv long time no see.” She laughed, she was in high spirits. “Oh Zac it’s nice to see you back hanging out with girls again I never liked Annabelle she seemed very uptight. Liv seems nicer.” She started to talk to me because Zac was going bright red and began to start doing stuff to cause a distraction. “So love how are and you, any surf today?”
“I’m good thank you Jess but there was no surf it was flat as a pancake. I just wanted to say I love what you have done with your house it is amazing, I want a house like this when I’m older. This is my dream house.” Jess was so friendly but also was an embarrassing mum as well.
“Funny that because when Zac’s dad and I finished this place he practically said the same thing,” she laughed, “You guys could by roomies.” I giggled at the idea, us two living under one roof would be so fun we would have such a laugh. “I think you guys would be great roomies I’m sure something will happen between you two in the future.” It was a weird comment but I just let it pass.
“MUM!” Zac shouted and shocked me, “can we have the brownies yet, I want to show Liv the rest of the house as she’s so enthusiastic.” I giggled and just went with it.
“Oh okay,” Jess winked at Zac and gave him a plate full of brownies, “Have fun Liv, don’t hold back to explore.” It was getting weirder and weirder what Jess was saying but I felt the need to be polite.
“Thank you Mrs Green.” She looked grateful towards me and then left us to it. We were standing in the kitchen and Zac was holding the brownies and just staring at them. “Why don’t you have one?” I asked.
“Oh... because... well to be honest I really don’t know. Well you know when you’re not hungry but it smells so good you want to eat it?” I had never really experienced what he was talking about but I understood the situation. I looked at him blankly not knowing whether to advise him or to just let him work it out for himself. He indicated towards me to tell him something, anything.
“Emm... right why don’t you wait until you are actually hungry then you will enjoy it more.” I felt a bit silly because I had just pointed out the obvious and he started to laugh discreetly, it was like he was mocking me. “Sorry I couldn’t give any better advice.”
“No, no thank you for the advice, I was just laughing because I couldn’t really believe how I didn’t think of that. Bit stupid huh?” I smiled with relief. “Hey do you want to see the rest of the house?” I nodded I was eager to see what else the house looked like. He took me round the bottom of the house it had the same theme and was so cosy. It had a warm feeling inside I felt so comfortable in their house. We walked up stairs and it was so nice, Zac’s mum and dad’s room was completely fish themed, they had cute ornaments in the shape of starfish and acrylic glass bubble paintings all over the walls they were beautiful. They had a feature wall that was wood planks piled on the wall layered. Their coat cupboard was full f surfboards. Zac then led me towards his room. His door was pale blue and had a surfboard, with a flame pattern, hung on the door. He let me through, it wasn’t what I expected a teenage boy’s room, it was clean and there were surfboard fins on the walls all different patterns. On one of the walls there were six surfboards ranging from a long board down to a thruster. He had a really cool work desk where the top of it was a surfboard. It kind of reminded me of my bedroom except my walls were lime green and his were blue. “So, what do you think?” He asked as he sat down on his sofa.
“I love it, I love this house and I love your room. It’s so comfortable, I wasn’t lying when I told your mum this is my dream house. Your parents are really talented.”
“I know, I would love to have a house like mine when I’m older, I would probably get my parents to help decorate it.” He laughed and I in honest fact I would have too. “You can sit down if you want.”I had just realised that I was standing in the middle of his room awkwardly; I didn’t really know where to sit. Thankfully he saw that and indicated just to sit on his sofa. “So Liv, what’s been happening with you over the past two years? I feel like we haven’t spoken properly in ages.” He was right until today we hadn’t spoken to each other properly in more than two years.
“Not much just the same old you know most of what’s been happening.” He bowed his head in sorrow, so I tried to lighten the mood. “But I got a good wetsuit tan line.” He laughed and I showed him the difference of colour between my hand and my forearm and my foot and ankle. It was really bad but I was quite dark skinned anyway.
“Wow! I’ve got something worse though.” He lifted up his neck to show the difference between his face and neck/chest. It was really, really bad, “So what do you think?” I began to laugh.
“I mean that’s just...wow!” Zac looked down at the untouched brownies in the middle of us. Like he was offended that I hadn’t take one yet.
“Do you not want one of my mum’s delicious brownies?” He had a smirk widening on his face.
“Oh god no I would but I’m just not hungry at the moment.” He picked one up and looked towards me. “Please don’t take any offence they look and smell lovely.” I was getting quite worried in what his next moved would be. Before I could say anything more to make him less angry he smashed the brownie right into my face. I was in disbelief, he was dying of laughter. I wiped of the chocolate and saw Zac on the edge of the sofa still laughing. I picked up a brownie and did the same to him; he abruptly stopped laughing and sat up. He seemed so serious, I felt kind of bad.
“You’re so going to get it now.” He said in a cunning but nice voice. He picked up the whole of the plate. I jumped up off the sofa and ran to the other side of the room.
“No!” I shouted laughing and a little scared. He chucked two brownies over the room, one missed but the other landed straight in my hair. “Oh it’s on.” I said picking up the brownie that missed me, and threw it at Zac. Luckily for me it landed in his face.
“Aww... Nice aim.” I felt smug and thanked him. “Right now you need to be taken down a peg or two.” I suddenly woke up to reality and heard what he said.
“Wait! What?” And all of a sudden Zac was right next to me and smashed at plate full of brownie into my face and hair. He took the plate away from my face and I licked my face a little, and said without realising I said it out loud. “OO... It is really nice yum!” He laughed and so did I. I looked to my side and Zac was unarmed thank god. I had enough chocolate by then. He collapsed onto his bed and so did I. “Wow I haven’t had that much fun since I was a little kid, thank you.” He turned to face me and was about to say something when his mum burst in the door. She looked around herself and we popped up like two meerkats. If my dad saw the mess we made he would have flipped, my mum and dad used to love to make a mess with me but ever since this new girlfriend came in he became a neat freak.
“Oh thank god you guys are okay.” Jess said exhaling, “I thought someone hurt themselves. So you guys didn’t like my brownies then?” Oh I thought she must have thought I was so rude.
“Oh my... I’m so sorry about the mess just to say though your brownies should be famous they are so nice.” She laughed and through some brownie at me which was down by her feet. I laughed and so did she. “I promise I’ll clean it up.” I was only worried because their house seemed so new and clean.
“Oh darling don’t break a sweat it’s just a bit of mess, it’s not the end of the world. Just have fun and don’t hurt yourself, Zac seems to have a habit of hurting himself.” I laughed just thinking about the first time we met, I fell over him. “I’m going snorkelling with your dad, Joe, so I’ll leave you guys to it.”
“See you Mrs Green.”
“Bye Mum.” As soon as his bedroom closed Zac slumped down on his bed, “Ahhhhh.” Laughing I got up and walked to his door, “Where you going?” He asked quickly.
“To go and wash off the mess you made on my face and in my hair.”
“Why, it suits you.” He laughed and then sat up. “Okay bathrooms at the end of the corridor, the sign makes it obvious.” With that I left his room and looked down the corridor and saw a surfboard with the men and women sick figure you see outside public toilets.
