Alexandra's POV
Ugh. First day of school. And at school I'm coming back to after two years, too. (Hey, homophones!) Would they remember me at all?
Goodbye, summer. Back to horrible cafeteria food, strict teachers, excluding cliques, and PE. Okay, the last one deserves a category all by itself. Or it used to. Before I...
Anyway, it's not that I don't like school, it's just that... sometimes, it becomes too much to handle.
I woke up and did my morning routine of getting ready. Blah blah blah, shower, outfit, makeup, and head downstairs. A normal morning, very typical of a weekday.
Well, normal was okay. It was... nice, in some ways. But a secret part of me longed for the thrill of the unexpected, the suspense of not knowing what was coming next.
My long hair cascading down my back, I ran down the stairs to the kitchen. I grabbed a waffle and ran to the bus station just as the bus arrives. I hop on the bus and begin the journey to hell.
A girl wearing an oversized rainbow beanie bumped into me in the aisle. "Excuse me, sorry!" she said, adjusting her backpack. When she looked up at me, she frowned. "Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?"
I frantically shook my head, praying that she wouldn't remember me. The girl seemed to buy it and took a seat right behind the bus driver.
When I got dropped off at the school, I saw Sydnie Bland: the school's slut, and the most popular girl in the school. Apparently, she hadn't changed even after two years.
She was standing there with McKenna and Alicia, her loyal minions. "Nerd alert," she whispered to her friends, thinking that I wouldn't hear.
I tried to ignore them as I walked into the school, but as I walked by them, Sydnie grabbed my hair and yanked it so that I would stumble backwards. "Whoops, sorry! It was an accident," she fake-apologized.
You're probably thinking, If she's doing this in front of the school, wouldn't someone stop her? The answer is no. Nobody will stand up to her, including me. I didn't fight back then, and I won't fight back now, no matter how much I would like to.
I heard a couple of leftover snickers as the queen bees of Central High sashayed away. Picking myself up from the ground, I headed to my locker.
Just then, the bell rang. Students hurried to their classes, most carrying books and backpacks.
"Crap, I forgot to get my schedule!" I said. I hurried to the office quickly, praying that I wouldn't be late.
