Chapter 5
Helping Alexa was torture, but when is it not torturous in this house? She had me help her pick out an outfit for a party she would be going to on Friday. She wanted to impress the new kid, Ross, and apparently he was into girls who dressed like me. I don’t understand why that is, but I doubt I will ever understand why.
I had Alexa try on a bunch of various things, but she didn’t like a single one of them. She finally went with a black dress that came down to her mid-thigh, spaghetti straps, fit close to her body, and a low neck line that showed off her cleavage. I mentally rolled my eyes at just looking at her.
The things stupid girls do for stupid guys.
I don’t even think she needed my help; wasting my time with trying. As soon as we were done she kicked me out of her room. No complaints here. I swear I would have barfed up pink rainbows if I stayed in there much longer. Her Pepdo-Bismal palace was all I could take. So much pink!
Dinner wasn’t long after, and I guess mom’s punishment for me was silent treatment, again. She didn’t talk to me at all, even when I told her goodnight. She ignored me like I was some homeless person on the streets. I don’t even think my parents said anything to Alexa or Jordan. They hadn’t taken a swipe at me all night. Usually they would ask or tease me about it. I wonder why they haven’t said anything.
THE NEXT MORNING, Nina woke me up with her daily hiss and a whack in the face. I growled at her, and Nina hissed back. I went back to sleep, and she left. Then two minutes later, Dad decided to walk in.
“Wake up, Zyra. You have a big day in front of you.” He said, shaking my shoulder. I groaned into my pillow, trying to hide away in it. I heard him chuckle, and he kept shaking me. “Get up, and let’s get going.” He said. I opened my eyes and turned over to look at him. He clearly took a shower, his wet hair and clean shave smell were proof, but why was he still in sweats?
“Why are you up so early?” I asked.
“Because you have to be, now get up.” He said smacking my butt. I closed my eyes and turned back over to my side, pulling my blanket up higher to hide my face.
“Give me 20 more minutes.” I said. I heard dad get up, and I relaxed my body and tried to go back to sleep. He was so much easier going than mom.
Suddenly the covers are pulled off of me, and dad pulls my feet toward him. I shriek, because it’s the only reaction I can think of. Then dad throws me over his shoulder, and carried me out the door. I’m suddenly laughing, but I don’t find any of this funny. I start kicking, but dad only grabs and holds my feet together. Surprisingly, he has a very strong grip. He carries me into the bathroom, and sets me into the bath tub.
“What are you doing?” I demanded, way passed pissed.
“Getting you up.” He replied, then reached over and turned on the cold water. I gasped in shock as the icy cold water me. Dad just cracked up, stepping back before I could take a swing at him. “You up now?” he got out from his laughter. I glared at him, but he kept on laughing.
After I took a shower, and had a decent breakfast I went to dad’s office to see what I would be doing today. When I walked in dad was strumming his guitar muttering a few of the lyrics to himself. I sat on the old, brown, worn couch across from him, and just listened to him. The music was great, the lyrics were horrible, and I could tell dad was getting quickly frustrated with himself.
“Need help?” I asked. Dad looked at me, and smiled. He set his guitar down and beckoned me over. He handed me a piece of paper, and I smiled back thinking it was the lyrics he was working on. My smile faded as I looked over the piece of paper. It turned out to be that they weren’t lyrics, but a list of chores for me to do. I looked at dad in disbelief. He just shrugged at me and picked up his guitar going back to work. I sighed and walked out of the office. I looked at the list and saw laundry at the top of the list. After that it just gets worse.
