A Lonely Night - Oneshot

The new York alleyways are dark and damp lit only by a soft glow leaking from the main streets. Wade Wilson runs heavy footed through small puddles creating a distorted reflection of the full moon overhead.
He runs fast, taking quick and sharp turns through the small lanes.
He runs across the road through the streetlight, his face littered with harsh scars that create sharp and dark shapes under the light.

He runs past a group of people who seem shocked to see such a horribly disfigured man. He ignores them and runs on.

He's running out of time.

He cuts through small streets taking shortcuts  and small lanes. His heart pounds against his ribs in a firm beat, his breath slow and steady. He picks up the pace.

He's running out of time.

He finally meets a busy street,  light flooding his body. He looks around, ducks his head and strolls down the street.

He's running out of time.

But he can't be seen. Not like this. Not with his face... His scars on show. He looks up to see Stark Tower. He makes his way in and up to the meeting room at the very top. He enters and is greeted by stern faced super heroes

"You're late." Peter said with a disgruntled look on his face.

"Sorry, Baby boy." Wade pants with a smirk "I ran all the way here."

"That aside," Steve says cooly "You're still late."

"Okay grandpa. It won't happen again"
Wade skips over to a seat beside Peter and Tony stares him down.

"There has been several instances of muggings and dangerous activity on Thomas Street and we need someone to keep lookout and take down the attackers" Tony starts "We've been thinking about it and this could be a chance for Peter to take out a lone mission"

Peter looks up at the speaking of his name. Everyone nods. Except wade and Bucky who keep a serious look toward Tony.

"Ar-are you sure you mean me?" Peter asks confused

"Absolutely kid" Steve confirms "this is right up your alley after all"

"Uhhh okay... I guess" Peter stammers. Wade puts his hand on Peters shaking leg and gives him a reassuring look.

"I'll go with him" wade says still looking at Peter "little Petey would get lost without me"

"No, wade" Natasha interjects "this is a one man mission. You'll be fine Peter"

"Now that's settled we can call this meeting and get some rest" Banner yawns already leaving.

"Peter you'll head out tonight so get yourself ready" Tony says and wade gives him a unsatisfied growl. "You'll be fine" he continues to Peter but looks at wade as if he was really speaking to him.

The night crawls on and as the rest of the team disperse to their rooms only wade and Tony are left after hours of drinking.

"I just don't get it" wade slurs "if they're going to give me a boyfriend can I have the same one every time please? Hellooo! I've been put with jailbait now."

"Wade what  are you talking about" Tony questions half heartedly, struggling to pour another drink.

"His face Tony" Wade whispers as if it was a secret "they keep changing his face. I mean I know I'm crazy but I'm not so crazy I wouldn't notice his face being changed."

"Wade?"

"Yes my love?"

"Shut the fuck up... Please"

Wade gets up and walks toward the window "I thought you were going to say something profound or romantic" wade says chuckling.

"I know" Tony replies a little to sincerely

"You mean you read minds? Because that's amazing! I'm glad you finally got a pow-"

"No I know what you're feeling you cocky  bastard" Tony growls "You're scared you'll not see him again. Scared that this could be his last mission... I-I know..."

It was at that point wade realised the tin man had a heart. He'd loved an lost and he's still not moved on.

"Tony I'm sorry. I totally forg-"

"It's fine wade..  I'm fine... Peter is fine..."

"Peter is hella fine... I'm still not sure if that's inappropriate... He's like 12, I know you were desperate to hire someone but at least let them hit puberty first" Wade giggles.

At that moment wade hears a glass smash and turn to see a drunk Tony staring at the ground where he dropped his drink.

"What the hell is going on out here!?" Steve asks angrily storming into the room.

"Ohh grandpa has a hot bod!" Wade jeers as Steve realises he's only in his star spangled underwear "is it time for your sponge bath Mr Rogers" wade asks skipping toward the super soldier.

"Steve?! Steve what are you doing?"

A voice is heard behind Steve and the face of bucky barnes appears. Bucky stands behind Steve holding a sheet around his legs with a shocked expression on his face.

"And he has a friend" wade says clapping.

Steve and bucky look at each other and toward stark and wade. Bucky opens his mouth to speak when wade interrupts.

"Oh no. Don't say a word. We saw nothing." He says covering his eyes and the pair retreat back to their room.

"Who would have thought Steve would be getting called granddaddy under your roof huh tin man?" Wade laughs and grabs Tony before he falls on the pile of glass and carries him to the sofa.

"He'll be safe, wade. He's done this before" Tony says sitting up on the couch.

"It's confusing yknow? Deadpool the mercenary understands how missions work and that it only makes sense to have him alone. But Wade Wilson the man wants to be beside him making sure he's safe. It's confusing" wade sighs sitting beside Tony.

"Peter said something about a-a dance... Home.." Tony trailed off.

"Homecoming" Wade finished "That's the cute shit Petey is into. Let's hope he wants to go with me" he stares out the window wishing. Hoping that Peter doesn't get himself killed. He has a dance to attend after all.

The days and weeks roll by, Peter easily recovering from a few gang fights. The day of homecoming arrives and wade waits for Peter to finish getting ready before they leave.

"What takes you so long? It's not like you do your hair anyway... Unless-" wade is interrupted when the bathroom door opens to reveal a suited Peter Parker. His auburn hair messu as always. His tight grey suit accented by a red bow tie.

"Oh baby boy I'm so happy you went for the skinny jeans," Wade swoons "your ass is something to behold."

Peter laughs and punches his shoulder (which actually kinda hurts) and Tony sighs putting his head in his hands.

"Be safe" Steve says.

"I could say the same to you" wade says tilting his head towards Bucky who immediately looks guilty while Steve goes crimson. "See ya later losers. M'lady" wade puts his arm out and Peter takes it. They walk towards the door, toward the dance and away from this superhero stuff for one night.

"Does anybody else hear the rugrats theme song" wade asks.

Peter bursts out laughing as they walk through the door.
