Megan and I went and sat down on the cold bleachers, slightly shivering from the bitter wind. I was so excited to watch Mason play because I haven't been to one of his games in a bit. Also, I knew that I wasn't the only one looking forward to see someone play. I could tell that Megan wanted to look for Danny since I got into her car.
Later on in the game, it started to get really intense. We were ahead by seven points. The entire game it kept going back and forth between us and the opposing team, the eagles. By the time the last ten minutes came around, everyone was on the edge of their seats. "Touchdown eagles!" The announcer yelled which was followed by many groans from our stand.
I looked up at the clock to see 0:12 left of the game. It was our team's fourth down and it was our last chance to score. The play began and Mason threw the ball to Danny who ran fifteen yards for a touchdown. The crowd was full of excited cheers and disappointed groans as time ran out. We won the game.
Before anyone could start descending from the bleachers, I heard a familiar voice come from the loudspeaker. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Tonight I would like to make a quick announcement." The voice began. I looked on to the field to find Mason with a microphone. "So, would Maya Conners please come on the field?" He said into the microphone. I felt everyone's gaze on me as I descended from the metal bleachers.
By the time I got there five of his friends stood behind him, already changed out of their uniforms. "What are you doing Mas-" I began, but he interrupted me. "I have a question for you Mai." He said as he signaled to his teammates behind him. They took their hands out from behind their backs and gave me flowers and balloons. I laughed nervously. "I know that I'm not much of a dancer, but will you read what the balloons spell for me?" I looked up and gasped. Caught up in the moment, I didn't notice the writing on each of the balloons. "Prom?" was spelt out above my head. "What do you say, Mai? Will you let me escort you to prom?" He asked.
I nodded happily, causing the crowd to cheer excitedly. He grinned at me happily. I ran up to Mason and kissed him. Time felt like it was stopping and all I could feel was his lips against mine and me smiling into the kiss.
After everyone began to file out into the parking lot, Meg ran up to me and hugged me. "Now you know why I was acting that way." She said, knowing she was bad at keeping secrets. I smiled and laughed lightly. "Now we just have to find you a date." I said as I winked at her.
I began to say goodbye to Mason after he gave me a single rose in the parking lot. "You don't know how long I've wanted to ask you that." He admitted and I stood there shocked. "How long?" I asked. "Eight years." Mason said, smiling at me. "Well it was beautiful. Thank you." I said as he intertwined his fingers with mine. "Thank you for saying yes. I mean that would be a little embarrassing if you rejected me." He said. "Maybe next time I will." I said playfully.
By the time I got home, all I wanted to do was go to bed. I changed into my pajamas and threw myself on to my bed. I happily smiled into the pillow.
Little did I know what would happen next.
