'Boom!' I awoke to the resounding clash of lightning hitting the earth and the metallic taste of my mouth from sleeping for such a long amount of time. I turned towards my dresser to see that my alarm clock read as 1:00 A.M. I lay back down into the soft embrace of my comforter closing my eyes and, once again, seeing the darkness that encompasses one before they enter the world of dreams.
'Boom!' Once again I was awakened with a jolt as I scanned my room. I relaxed as I saw that everything was still in order. I suddenly felt a wet substance on my arm and turned to see my extremely tiny, purebred beagle, Dexter, licking me. I laughed and pet him, feeling his soft, black fur.
'Boom!' I heard once again, seeing a flash of brilliant light that exaggerated the shadows across the wall, making them look like they were their own type of animal. I jumped and hugged Dexter tight to my side as he began barking profusely. I continued to shush him as another flash of lightning struck the ground, and I could finally hear the 'pitter patter' of the rain hitting the roof of my father's newly built house. Dexter suddenly sprinted to the door as if he were a cheetah. I slowly stood up from my bed and, feeling the cold metal of the doorknob, I opened the door, watching my dog run as fast as he could down the stairs into my parents' room.
I lay back down in bed to the strong smell of Dexter and my perfume mixed together into one. I tried and tried to sleep once again, but was never completely consumed with the silence of my simple, yet intricately designed performances created by the brain, though I was completely exhausted. All I could here was 'boom!' 'boom!' 'boom!'
Eventually my body had had enough and shut down on its own, leaving me to wake up in the morning with the beeping of my alarm clock. I walked outside for some fresh air, and I could smell the hint of rain and feel the humidity that is the effect of a storm.
