"What the fuck!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face. I backed up, away from the body on the floor, my hands shaking uncontrollably. I could feel the sweat forming on my back, my forehead glistening with it.
Pushing my hair back with my hand, I tightened the grip on my hair my hand still shaking. My chest was heaving up and down rapidly. Brushing my right hand to my cheek, I felt something warm and sticky, almost dried up. I looked down at my fingers and saw them smeared with blood.
Afraid and upset I wiped my cheek roughly with the back of my hand. My eyes filled with tears and I looked up at Kade, seeing him observing me. He made a face, a look of indecisiveness and turned his attention to the gas clerk.
"Delete everything." He clicked the safety off his gun and pointed in at the man. I watched as the man scrambled around, without a thought, to erase all the footage of what had just taken place.
"Don't do it." I spat, disgusted with everything that was happened in the past two days. Kade straightened out his back and looked at me. His gun was still pointed at the man behind the counter. I don't even think he was old enough to be called a man, he looked no older than 18.
I raised an eyebrow at Kade wanting to prove that I wasn't afraid and wasn't going to back down from him. Keeping eye contact with Kade, out of the corner of my eye I watched as the man inched towards the phone. Kade's neck snapped back in his direction and with a loud bang, the phone was blown apart with a bullet.
The gas clerk let out a startled scream and I winced slightly, getting ready for another bullet to be shot, this time at the man.
"Let him go! He hasn't done anything wrong!" I screamed at Kade, not wanting anyone else to get hurt, especially because of me.
"Delete the fucking surveillance tape. Now!" Kade shouted at the man and I flinched slightly, not expecting him to be so loud. The poor gas man fumbled around before deleting all of today's video surveillance.
"I won't say a thing to no one, I swear." I bit my lip watching the man, seeing how terrified he was. I closed my eyes trying to tell myself it was all going to be okay. I open my eyes to see Kade walking closer to the man.
"Kade stop!" I screamed thinking he was going to shoot him. Kade ignored me and moved closer to the counter. He pressed his hand to the counter, the other pointing the gun at the boy. I watched as he parted his lips slightly, as if he were about to speak but had to formulate his thoughts first.
"This never happened do you understand me. In about-" he paused, checking his watch, "thirty minutes call the police. When they ask if you saw the shooters face you say 'no, he was wearing a mask. He looked about 55'. Are we clear? If I find out you said otherwise-" he pointed the gun at the boys crotch, "I'll come back and I won't kill you. I'll instead shoot that tiny little cock off." As he finished he tightened his grip on the gun. The poor gas boy nodded instinctively covering his crotch.
I knew if I tried to make a run for it, he'd probably shoot me so I remained where I stood. Shit. I suddenly remembered the gun I had tucked away in my jeans. I saw my chance. I reached for my gun, pulling it out and pointed at Kade, clicking off the safety.
Kade turned his head to me, glaring at me, his knuckles turning white from the grip on his gun. I knew he could he see my hand shaking the slightest bit, encouraging him to move closer to me. I looked up for a brief second reminding myself that I had to do this. I tightened my grip on the gun, my hand no longer shaking.
"Let him go." I demanded, keeping my voice steady, wanting to sound like I was in charge. Kade didn't even move an inch. I raised my voice louder, trying to avoid it coming out shrill. "I said let him go goddamnit!" I waved my gun around a bit and aimed mine for Kade's crotch. I caught Kade flicker his eyes down to his crotch before they came back to me. Raising an eyebrow, he looked at me and slowly moved the gun away from the direction of the boy.
