A/N-

This chapter got away from me lmao. Guess what, it's my first published boyxboy! So, keep the criticism constructive, please haha. But what do you guys think about it? I know it's really fast paced and patchy, I get really impatient in the first couple of chapters since I'm basically just shoving information in your face, so I apologize if there are any mistakes. Also, no Ivan. But maybe you'll see him next chapter ;)

Everett's POV

Lugging the box up the clean stairs, I let out another loud huff. We have movers here to place the new furniture and heavy cardboard boxes inside the house, yet my father insisted I "use my lazy butt and put in work." I didn't even have time to respond before he had run down the front steps to get more boxes. Now, I could only drop the box onto the floor of my new room and faceplant onto my bed.

"Ugh, it doesn't even have sheets on it!" I groan into the bare mattress. My back hurts so bad. God, I'm 17 and already having back problems.

"All I just heard was 'Ugh, eht daht eun han thet ohn eht.'" My mom sing-songs as she walks into my room with, surprise, another box. I couldn't help but let out an embarrassing giggle at her impression of my mushed talking. Turning my head so I can see her, my mom smiles as she sets the box on my dresser.

She looks happy, although I know it was hard for her to move across the country. New York was where all of our family was, and if there's anything important to my mom, it's family. She wasn't sad about moving to Oregon, but I know she'd rather be in New York. Guilt crawls up my throat, making me swallow and close my eyes to stop looking at her. They say it's not my fault, but the truth is never far behind a reassurance.

"Honey?" I open my eyes, seeing my mom put a folded shirt into my dresser, but her eyes are on me. She's concerned, she has a small furrow to her brows and a questioning look in her eyes. I just smile and hop up from my bed, kissing her cheek as I skip out of the room. The last thing I need is for them to worry about me after I made them move 3,000 miles.

"Where are you racing off to?" My dad asks. He's alone, so I'm guessing the movers got everything out of the truck and left. By the hoards of boxes around the house, I assume I'm right.

"I have to go explore! You didn't really expect me to just look out into the woods behind the house, did you?" I laugh as he follows me into the kitchen, shaking his head. He's always been exasperated with my energy apparently. I open up the back door, taking in the woodsy autumn smell that seems to stick around here.

"Of course not. Just promise not to wander too far, okay?" He has a serious look in his eyes, so I just smile and nod.

"Okie dokie, artichokie!" I sing as I laugh and close the door gently behind me. I can hear him laugh from inside, so I know I'll be off the hook if I stay out longer than mom prefers. Looking down at my plain dark jeans and sneakers, I figure I'll be fine if I get a little muddy. Stepping down from the back porch, I breath in the air as I bounce towards the woods. Something that I genuinely like about this small town, is the smell. It seems like it's stuck in eternal autumn and it smells like burning leaves and cinnamon. It's nice.

Before I know it the sun is setting and I've walked who knows how far. I can't help but... be happy. Every time I see a squirrel eating nuts I'll giggle, or when I run around the trees and fall into a pile of leaves.

"I needed this." I think as I walk into a clearing in between the trees. The grass is tall and it's silent other than the quiet wind. A feeling of gratitude wells up within me and I can't help but cry as I drop in a huge pile of leaves. I rub at my eyes, angry that I have to cry at every little thing since, then. I just want to be grateful for my parents and their love for me, not cry like a little baby.
