They come home from their date as James opens their condo's door for Nadine, they are arguing about some character of the cartoon they're both hooked to.
It's their normal playful banter.
It's actually one of the things they love about each other.
How they can talk about the silliest of things and at the same time be the person who they can share their deepest darkest secrets.
They can talk about anything.
After all, they've been together as a couple for five years, and been bestfriends for two years before that.
They have already traveled the world, accomplished many milestones in their careers. They have been through the nastiest of issues about the two of them, still they're going strong. They just got closer and closer and their relationship was the best thing that happened to them. They can both agree to that. They just enjoy every minute and they couldn't be any happier.
On their fourth year of being together, James asked her to move in with him to his condo that he shares with Bret. Nadine basically lives there anyway, but he was still very excited when she said yes. He even bought her a new dresser because he knew how much clothes she has, and she was so happy. He was rewarded generously that night.
It was one of the most unforgettable moments he has until now.
It was like they were in their honeymoon phase again that time, like they couldn't get enough. There was even one time that Bret walked in on them while Nadine was on top of James, riding him hard like the naughty cowgirl she is. She almost fell off the bed when James mustered all his strength to cover her up with his bedsheets, leaving him all naked for Bret to see.
It never happened before, even if she was always there. It's just they were always always doing it.
Finally, Bret thought it would be best to leave them and move out. They are one of his closest friends and they deserve their privacy, for their relationship. Also, he wanted to save himself from seeing more of James' bare ass.
James would definitely miss Bret, but he couldn't think about that, not when he was so excited that he'll be living with Nadine alone.
Just the two of them.
And now, after the wonderful dinner they had, after they finished their nightly routine and changed into something comfy, they slip into the sheets of their bed as James pulls Nadine in a hug.
'I love you.' He tells her.
'I love you.' She smiles before she leans in to kiss him goodnight.
He smiles at her too. Not because it's what someone's supposed to do, but because he's just happy.
To be right where he is.
With her.
He feels like nothing could go wrong anymore, as long as she's in his arms.
Contented, he drifts into sleep as he feels her cuddle closer to him.
James wakes up feeling...weird.
