Sally was coming back today and I was excited. She was pretty. "Arther, Mom wants to see you." Bradly said and I quickly went to Mother's room. I kncoked on it a couple times.
"Come in." Mother said and I opened the door. "Hey, honey." I sat in the chair next to her bed and took her hand.
"Hi, Mother, how are you feeling?" I asked and she smiled at me.
"Better." She said and I nodded. "You?"
"Good." I said.
"That's good." She stroked my hand with her thumb and kept smiling at me. "Have you added any pictures to your book?" I shook my head.
"No, not yet." She nodded and yawned. "Your tired, I should go." I stood up.
"No, don't go." She said. "I want you to be here." I nodded and sat back down.
"Ok." I sat there and watched her fall asleep. I smiled and moved some of her black hair out of her face. I gently kissed her forehead and quietly left the room. After closing the door, I went back to my room and looked in my book. Father came in and I looked at him.
"What'd your Mother say?" He asked.
"She asked how I was." I said and he nodded.
"Anything else?"
"If I added any new pictures to my book." He nodded and there was an ackward silence between us.
"Sally will be here soon, is she still awake?" I shook my head.
"She was sleeping when I left." He nodded.
"Alright, you'll have to make yourself a sandwhich for lunch." I nodded and he left. I went to the kitchen and made myself a sandwhich. I ate it and there was a knock on the door. I was the first to the door and opened it. Sally stood there in a white shirt and jeans. She smiled, showing her white teeth.
"Hi." She said and I tried to say something.
"Hi." I said and Father pulled me to the side.
"Come in." He said and Sally came in. "Minda just woke up." She nodded and followed him to Mother's room. They went in and Father closed the door behind them. Bradly and I sat in the living room.
"What do you think their talking about?" I asked and Bradly shrugged.
"Their probably asking her questions." He said and I nodded. We watched TV until they came in.
"Boys, -" Before Father could say anything else.
"Mom, what are you doing out of bed?" Bradly asked before I could and she smiled at us.
"I'm fine." She said and I frowned. "Don't look at me like that." She looked at Sally. "I'll show you around." Father helped Mother move around and we followed them. "Everything you need to cook are in here." Mother said as we walked into the kitchen. "I'd like it kept clean." Sally nodded. "None of us are are allergic to anything, so you don't have to worry about asking." I followed close behind Sally as we went through the house and Mother told her what she needed to know. "You don't have to worry about the boys' rooms, they'll keep them clean." Sally suddenly stopped and I ran into her. She was about to fall but I caught her.
"Sorry." I said as I pulled her up right.
"It's ok." She pulled out her phone and looked at it.
"I know why I reconize you." Mother said suddenly and we looked at her. "Come with me." We followed her to the hall closet and looked through it. She pulled out one of her scrap books and went through it. She pulled out a picture and stood up. "You look just like your mother." She handed Sally a picture and I looked over her shoulder. Sally was smiling next to a younger version of Mother.
"You knew her?" Sally asked and Mother nodded.
"We went to school together." Mother said. "We spent all of our time together." Mother pulled her into a hug. "She was a great woman." Sally had on a sad smile.
"Alright, I think you've been out of bed long enough." Father said and Mother frowned.
"Ok." She said and he took her back to their room.
"Ok." Bradly clapped his hands. "Can you make something for us?" He asked and I frowned at him. "Sandwhiches are starting to get old." She nodded.
"Ok, what do you want?" She asked and Bradly scratched his chin.
"Um...doesn't matter to me." He said and Sally nodded.
"Want something?" She asked me and I shrugged.
"Sure." I said. "Make what you want." She nodded and we followed her to the kitchen. She started making some sugar snacks and gave us a plate. I tried one and smiled. "This is good." I said and she smiled at me.
"Thank you." She said and Bradly quickly ate his seconds.
"These are good." He said with a mouth full and Sally smiled. I ate another and Bradly stuffed two into his mouth.
"Quit hogging them." I said and he rolled his eyes. I grabbed my half and started eating them. Bradly quickly ate his and tried to take mine. "Get your own." I snapped and heard Sally giggle.
"I got more." She aid and Bradly bolted to her. She gave him a plate and he sat back at the table. Sally gave me antoher plate with more and I smiled.
"Thank you." She nodded.
"Your welcome." She started putting things away and cleaned up some. Father came in and looked at us.
"What'd you make?" He asked.
"A quick snack." She said and he nodded. He took one from Bradly and he glared at Father. He took a bite and nodded.
"Pretty good." He said and I saw Sally smile.
"Thank you." Bradly tried to take one of mine and I hit his hand away. I finished eating mine then put my plate in the sink. Sally washed it and put it away.
"Sally!" Mother called from her bed and Father took her to Mother. I went into the living and watched TV. After awhile, Sally came out with a red face.
"What's wrong?" I asked and she shook her head.
"Nothing." She left before anyone could say anthing. Father came in and sat on the couch.
"What's wrong with Sally?" I asked and he shook his head.
"Your mother was telling her stories about her mother and she started crying." He said and I nodded. "Arther, do you like her?" I nodded. "I mean more then a friend." I shrugged.
"I don't know." I mumbled.
"Yes, you do. Tell me." I sighed.
"She's pretty." I said and he nodded.
"And that's why I'm asking her out on a date." Bradly said and I frowned. I went to my room and sat on my bed. "Arther?" Bradly came in and sat on my bed. "Do you really like her?" I shrugged. "I won't ask her out if you don't want me, too." I nodded.
"Don't ask her." I said and he nodded.
"Alright." He rubbed the back of his neck. "She's coming back tomorrow to start working." I nodded and we sat in an awkward silence for a while. "Well, I'm going to go." I nodded and he left. I laid back and waited for sleep to come. After a while, if finally took me.
