I woke up and took a quick shower. I got dressed, kissed my brother's head, and went to work at the grocery store. When I got there, the girls were gathered around the counter looking at a sign. I walked up to them and they looked at me. "What are you looking at?" I asked and they looked at me.
"The Cunnings are hiring someone to be their maid." Britney said and I looked at the sign.
Looking for help that will cook, clean, and other things.
It had a number and adress.
"Who would want to work for them?" Cindy asked and I thought about it. Cook? Clean? My specialties. "OMG, your thinking about it." She said and everyone looked at me.
"So?" I asked and they shook their heads.
"The Father is the reason why the youngest hasn't left the house in ten years." Britney said and the others nodded. "He is the meanest, grouchiest, and most horrible man ever created by God." I shrugged.
"All I've heard are rummors, they could most likely be lies." I said and took the sign down.
"If you work for them, you won't have time to work here." Cindy said.
"I know, that's why I'm going to see them after my shift." I said and they shook their heads. When my shift ended, I went over to the Cunning's place. It looked like a normal house, except the loose shingles, light brown grass, and...healthy flowers on the front porch. I shrugged and went up to the door. I knocked and heard someone running inside. Soon the door opened with a mean looking guy standing in a door way and two younger guys that looked in their twenties behind him.
"Yes?" He asked.
"Um...I'm here for the job." I said and he frowned.
"Aren't you a little young?" He asked.
"I'm twenty-two." The younger looking guy purked up some and the old guy nodded.
"Come in." He opened and I went in.
"I'm Sam Cunning, these are my boys. Bradly and Arther." He said and I nodded.
"I'm Sally Sue." I said and shook their hands.
"Follow me." Sam said and I followed him into a living room. There was a TV, fireplace, a couch, recliner, and a coughy table. We sat down and Sam scratched his head. "My wife would be out here but she's sick in bed." I nodded. "And that's why I put up the signs. She's been sick lately and can't move very much any more. If you take the job, you'll be cooking, cleaning, and helping us take care of her." I nodded.
"Alright." I said.
"Tell us about yourself." He said and I nodded.
"I live with my older brother, I cook and clean there, I work at the grocery store and laundry mat." I said and he nodded.
"Alright, what is your brother doing right now?" He asked.
"He's going to collage right now and works at the collage." He nodded.
"Alright, if my wife if better tomorrow, I'll call you." I nodded and gave him my number. "Alright, I think that's all." He said and I nodded.
"Oh, what is the pay?" I asked and he thought about it.
"We'll figure that out later." He said and I nodded.
"Alright, then I'll go." We stood up and they walked me to the door. I headed home and found Kyle looking through the fridge.
"We'll have to order food." I said and he looked at me.
"Where were you?" He asked. "I went to the grocery store but you weren't there." I nodded.
"I went to see if I could get a better job." I said and he nodded.
"Where?"
"The Cunnings a few blocks away was looking for someone to cook, clean, and help take care of the sick mom." He frowned.
"No." He said and I frowned.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Haven't you heard the stories?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yes, but do you actually beleive them?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yes, I do." He said. "I saw that kid who's too scared to leave their house, watching me through their window." I rolled my eyes and he pulled me into a hug. "I don't want to see you get hurt." He whispered and I sighed.
"I won't get hurt." I said but he still shook his head.
"I don't want you to work there." He said and I sighed.
"Do you really want to have this talk again?" I asked and he shook his head.
"No, I'm just worried about you." He said. "Ever since Dad died, you haven't been the same." There was pain in my chest when he mentioned Dad. He was a very touchy subject. "Promise me you'll stay out of trouble." He said and I nodded.
"I will." He nodded and grabbed the phone. "Bar-B-Q pizza." I said and he nodded.
"Ok." He kissed my head and I went to my room.
