Better Than I Know

Chapter 7

"Beth, you won't believe what just happened." Lila said jumping up and down in the middle of the halls.

"Shh, what?" I asked curious.

"Ben..." She started.

"What about Ben?" I interrupted her.

"If you wouldn't interrupt me." She said irritated.

"Okay okay, now tell me." I pleaded.

"He asked me to the dance." She said excitedly which only succeeded in making me laugh.

"What?" She asked raising her eyebrows.

"Nothing, I knew it." I said.

"Knew what?" She asked.

"You like him." I stated.

"Is it that obvious?" she asked turning pink.

"Yup." I said smiling.

"Omg." She said burying her face in her hands.

"What? It's pretty obvious he likes you too."

"You think so?" She said removing her hands with a glint of hope in her eyes.

Laughing, "yes, I think so. You could ask Luke if you don't believe me."

"Speaking of Luke, what did you guys talk about?" She said with her evil grin.

"What do you mean?" I asked trying to play clueless.

"I mean you left me with Ben to talk, so what was that about?" She was giving me the tell-me-everything-look.

"I just wanted to leave you and Ben alone, so I took Luke as an excuse.

“I explained but of course with my face changing colours she didn't believe me.

"That's it?" She asked.

"Yes...No." I said, god I am a terrible liar.

"Ha, caught you. Now tell me."

I was about to open my mouth when we heard some shouts from behind us, we turned around to see David and Sebastian.

"Just stay away from her, dude." David said pushing Sebastian who didn't even flinch, he didn't move an inch, isn't he supposed to act more like humans so no one knows his secret, for a vampire he's pretty dumb.

"Wow, the guy is pretty strong." I heard Lila saying under her breath.

Just then Lauren appeared, she was walking towards her locker when she saw David and Sebastian,

"What are you guys doing here?" She asked.

"Nothing, come with me." David said with much rage in his voice before he took her hand and left.

"Ladies" Sebastian greeted us before passing.

"What was that about?" Lila questioned.

"I have no idea." Of course I have some idea, he's starting to play with his food, the weird part is Lauren wasn't his type, why is he even bothering, I guess he just likes to see David angry. I know one thing though; I must bring them vervain and with Sebastian's rate ... Quickly.

Lunch time, my favourite time in my whole high school experience,

"Hey guys." Lila and I were the last to sit down.

"Hey." They greeted us back.

"Now, Lea was just telling us who she is going to the dance with." Lauren filled us in.

"Yeah, back to the point." Lea said.

"C'mon Lea, Just tell us already." Lauren pleaded.

"It's a surprise." And with that Lea ended her discussion.

I can't help but steal glances towards the figure next to me, I have a strange feeling in my stomach that I have never felt before, like when he smiles; I feel my stomach making back flip like I was on cloud nine, I can't describe what I feel cause I've never felt like this before, I just ... don't know.

"What about you Luke?" I heard Lea asking, what? What've I missed? I was brought back to reality by the mentioning of Luke's name.

"I am going with Beth." He said with his boyish smile looking at me, and of course I turned red.

I saw Lila glaring my direction. "You didn't tell me!" She said pouting.

"I was about to when we saw David." I tried to explain.

"What about after that?" She said.

"I swear I was going to tell you, but time wasn't helping me." I took her hand; I would hate it if she's mad at me.

"Lila, you're my best friend now, I swear I was going to tell you."

Luke was about to say something which only gained him a glare from me and the other two girls, never and I mean Never interrupt a girl when she's trying to make it up to her friend, that got him to close his mouth instantly.

"Lila?" I asked hesitant. She smiled and that caused me to sigh a long sigh of relief.

"I think you're my best friend too." She said and I hugged her tight.

"Also all of you guys, I consider you to be my family." I said tears starting to dwell in my eyes.

"Group hug." They all said at the same time.

I've turned my house upside down, I've searched every inch in the house but I just couldn't find those damn vervain bracelets, I want them ... No, I Need them.

I can't let Sebastian play with my friends' mind. I have made a mess everywhere, running towards my room I stumbled over a small box, I bent down and I opened it. It was my mother's treasure box-as she used to call it, it has some pictures of her and Dad back then and.... The bracelets, Thank God, I've found them; and the best part is they'll love them, I found 8 of them and I only need 6, Luck was by my side this time. I fell asleep that night going through mum and dad's old photos, giving me motivation to get my long awaiting revenge.
