Chapter One

        "Charge!" Maplekit looked up and saw her brother Reedkit burst out of the nursery. He ran at her and crashed into her. "Hey! Watch it you stupid furball." She growled. "Can you help me ambush Snowfeather and Silverscar? It'll be fun!" He yowled. "Fine fine. Follow me and stay down. She led Reedkit to the Elders den and crouched at the entrance. She flicked her tail and pounced on Snowfeather. Snowfeather yowled in surprise. "Take this Windclan warrior!" She crowed. She felt the ground pound and looked over at the entrance of the den. Her best friend Spottedkit and her siblings Riverkit and Minnowkit ran after her. Spottedkit jumped on Maplekit and pulled her off Snowfeather. "This is what you get when you mess with Windclan Shadowclan scum!" She cried. Maplekit growled and went limp. Spottedkit loosened her grip and Maplekit surged upward, throwing Spottedkit off. She felt teeth on her scruff and she was lifted into the air."Hey! Let me go, Let me go!" She hissed. She was lowered and she spun around to see her father, Sunpelt, standing in front of her. "Hey kits. Your mothers said to go to bed and rest up for tomorrow." He mewed. "What's tomorrow?" She asked tilting her head. "Your apprentice ceremony, remember?" His voice cracked with amusement. Maplekit pricked her ears. Of course! How could she forget. She led the kits back to the nursery and settled down near Moonspirit. "How was your last day as a kit sweets." She asked licking her between her ears. "Great!" Reedkit yawned. Maplekit closed her eyes, and let sleep take over.

Maplekit opened her eyes and stretched. Echowing, Spottedkit, Riverkit, and Minnowkit were already in the clearing. She looked and saw Reedkit and Moonspirit grooming. "Morning love. Better lick that pelt to look good for the clan." Maplekit looked down and saw her calico pelt all messy. She bent over and started to groom. When she was done, she padded out with Reedkit and Moonpirit. "Will all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here beneath high tree for a clan meeting" Flintstars voice rang out through camp. "Today, I wish to make five new apprentices. Minnowkit, please step forward." As Minnowkit stepped up, Flintstar motioned to Mouseclaw with his tail. "From this moment onward, you shall be called Minnowpaw. Your mentor will be Mouseclaw. Mouseclaw, you are a level headed cat and I know you can pass on your qualities to Minnowpaw." "Of course." The grey tabby stood by her black apprentice.
Maplekit watched as Riverpaw got Sunpelt, Spottedpaw got Pinenose, and Reedpaw got Thrushtail. Finally, it was her turn. "Maplekit, as of this moment, you are Maplepaw. You will have Jayflight as your mentor. Jayflight, as Moonspirits brother, I expect nothing more than teaching Maplepaw to be a great warrior." "She'll be the best warrior ever when I'm done." Jayflight promised. "Then this meeting is over." Flintstar bounded off high tree. "What will we learn first?" Reedpaw asked excitedly. "Well, you and Riverpaw will go hunting, Willowpaw will go patrolling, and Maplepaw will go battle training." Flintstar meowed. Maplepaw nodded with Reedpaw and Spottedpaw. "Come on Maplepaw. You have moves to learn." Jayflight lead her to an opening into a big area. "This is the training hollow. Where apprentices learn to fight." Maplepaw scanned the area. It was big and open. With rocks and boulders to hid behind. "What do I learn first?" She asked. "The front paw swipe. Take your paw like this, claws in and bash your opponent on the head. Simple right? You try it. Air fist, on me after." Maplepaw copied him and swiped at the air. "Like that?" "Yes. Now try it on me." Maplepaw ran at her mentor and fake swiped left which he dodged then hit him as he was dodging. The force sent her reeling away. "That was great! Pretending to hit me left then hitting me as I was moving out of the way!" He cried, eyes shining. "What other moves will that work on?"
