Alannah

"Nasaan ka?" I asked when Sara answered in 3 rings. She can understand me even though I'd spoken my own language. Every time we talked, in phones or we Skype, before we say our goodbyes, I'll teach her one word or sentence in Filipino, my language.

Sara was a very special friend of mine; she taught me various things about being an editor. Sometimes, according to her, it was tough other times it was easy. I'd known about this too, tough times were when I feel so jaded and I don't want to start editing and I'd end up passing it behind schedule. Easy was when I'd enjoyed editing very much, I'd end up editing 2 up to 3 more books giving me a great deal of money.

"In my work but I'm about to leave. I have an appointment with my doctor in about 25 minutes." She said, drifting me back to the present.

"Don't leave!" I shouted.

"Whoa, what was that for? You just broke my eardrum, babe. Why, where are you?"

"Guess where." I grinned.

"I don't have all the time in the world, Alannah. So just say where the fuck you are!" Irritation in her voice was palpable. Pregnant problems, psh.

I rolled my eyes. "Man Hot Tan Times building."

"Yeah? That's where I goddamn work. Talking to you pissed me off, I'm hanging up now."

Grr. I fucking hate your handsome husband for knocking you off resulting to your damn pregnancy and your damn hormones.

"I'm literally in your building." I said, then silenced.

I heard her laugh. Eh? "Ha-ha that's funny."

She doesn't believe me and she damned think I'm kicking off a joke. "Can I see you later?" I said in my most serious tone.

"Are you serious?! You're really here?! What? When? Where?" She sounded annoyed.

"I'm serious. I'm really here. Don't be so surprise. Yesterday. Outside your boss' office." I answered to her questions.

"What the fuck?!" Yeah, here we go. "Why didn't you tell me you're going here?! Damn, bitch. We were goddamn friends and you didn't call me or even text me to let me know you're coming here! That's sexist."

"First and foremost, I didn't tell you because I'm gonna surprise you. So surprise! Secondly, your boss is a guy and handsome and young. Why the hell didn't you tell me?" I said my voice sounding serious again.

"Oh! You'd never ask." She said.

Yeah, I never ask but that doesn't mean she'll never tell me.

"You should at least mention it in one of our conversation." I rolled my eyes.

"Babe, if I told you that my boss was a guy would you pursues your dream to become one of Man Hot Tan Times' editors?" She challenged.

I bite my lip. She's right; I wouldn't have gone here if I knew her boss was a guy.

"No." I answered honestly.

"See, that's what I'm talking about. You're afraid of guys, you hate them and you don't want to get involved with any of them but Alannah, you can't always run away from them. There's going to be a time where you'll face them. This is one of those times. I'm gonna ask you, will you turn your back that easily because your boss is a guy? Damn, babe if I were you, I won't. Ever. I won't let any of them stop me from reaching my dream." She said.

The silence stretches between us. Neither of us spoke after her speech. So, I'd time to analyze the things she said. She was right. I loved to edit books with the kind of mad passion. To hell with Dank even if he is a guy, he can't stop me from editing nor can he stop me from reaching my dream.
