I usually love rain, any type of form it comes in, I love it. Anything but on a weekend when I actually have plans. I even attempted to do something to my hair today. At this moment, I should be enjoying the little time left of this weekend I have with my cousins. But unfortunately they couldn't make it since they're currently grounded at an airport in New York. We're very close-knit cousins and always look forward to when we can see each other next.
"Why so gloomy?" My mom asks me while tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. Looking up to her, I can see she already knows the answer. "I'm sorry they couldn't make it sweet heart. Maybe you can hang out with Sierra today?" She asks in a hopeful tone. I can tell that she's sad they couldn't come too. I mean, it is her sister, my aunt, that was coming as well.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask." I start to walk towards the staircase when she calls out to me again.
"Do try and smile though." I nod and continue the 'journey' to my room upstairs. When I get inside, I walk a little faster to where my iPad is. I jump onto my bed and get comfortable, tapping on Sierra's contact at the same time. Sierra and I have been friends for a while now, four years now I believe. I still remember how we had met in the middle of sixth grade. A couple rings and calls go by, until she finally picks up on the fifth call.
"Sorry Lizzy, didn't see that you called." She says to me. Her face is red and some mascara has run down her face. I look close and bring the iPad closer to my face as well.
"Have you- have you been crying?"
"Hmm?" I watch as she pats her face with her hand, "Oh, this. No I haven't been crying, I was laughing." I give her a suspicious look.
"Must've been some pretty hard laughing for it to run like that." I quietly mumble out. She manages to hear it though and is quick to defend herself.
"You know if I laugh too hard I cry. Every normal person does it." She says in a controlled but angry tone. I bring one hand up in defense.
"Hey, chill. It was just a joke." Her face relaxes bit, "I wanted to know if you want to hang out. You know, since it's raining and everything."
Her once red face goes pale for a split second until it changed back to a normal tone. She shifts uncomfortably on her desk chair. From the side I can hear a few giggles and hushed voices. She looks slightly to her right, then back to me.
"I can't right now, sorry. I have some family over and you might feel a little uncomfortable."
"I don't think I'd feel uncomfortable. I know practically your whole major family. They'd be fine with me coming over I'm sure." I try to persuade her, since all I really want right now is company.
"Why don't you tell her the truth?" I hear a suspiciously familiar voice yell out to Sierra. The person is out of view from the camera though. She turns her head and gives the girl a glare.
"Who's there Si?" I start to get worried and my heart drops a little.
"No one Lizzy, my cousin is just being a jerk." She shakes her head and runs her hand through her hair, "Look, I have to go. I'm sure you have somebody else who can hang out with you today?" And like that, the call ends and I'm left with nothing but the noise of the pounding rain from outside.
