Gay?

She was gay, I didn't know until 8th grade but I found out when rumors started to spread. That was another thing I didn't understand, See I was born in Jamaica a place where that is shunned and frowned upon, I was never like that though. I did come to America at a young age, but being gay was a thing that was never talked about because it was secret. I started growing up watching all types of movies were there was always a gay best friend. I didn't think much of it , I actually loved them I thought they were funny and cool. I started understand more about this topic in 6th grade. Almost all the girls at my school complained about not having a gay best friend, I usually just rolled my eyes because I didn't understand why they wanted that specific person to be their friend. In 7th grade there was a girl in about 2 of my classes. She wore dresses ran track , we talked a little just simple hi's and bye's. she was a normal teenage girl nothing special about her really. One day in class someone yelled out she was a gay,my eyes widened and I looked at her expecting her to say something like "ew no I'm not" like everyone else would say when they were asked that at my school but no she confirmed it.
Nothing really changed with her well until basketball season started, at that time I started noticing her wear more pants less dresses, nothing out of the ordinary really.
In 8th grade she had really changed. She got popular, wore more boys clothes, she even wore boys boxers. Her and I didn't really talk but we were in almost all the same classes. I also noticed she started dating some girls at the school, I wasn't really surprised she is a really pretty girl. We started talking not in computer lab. The teacher moved her beside me because she was talking too much. I was typing my pretty obnoxious email into the computer, I turned to her and saw her eyes jokingly get bigger, I giggled and carried on rolling my eyes, we became friends that day and we stayed friends even through my TERRIBLE basketball experience.....terrible... at least I had my best friend to go through it with me
