TOMORROW

There he stood sorry as an awakened-from dream

With roses and cards and the exhausted routine

"Again?" whispered intelligence

"One last time" coaxed persistence

I know his honeyed words

And 'I love you's

Are like the tide and the sandcastle

He was the earth and I was the vassal

And yet I yearn

For that one little U-turn

He cups my face

"Your eyes hold the stars"

"Scars" I whisper

As overwhelmed as The Faith's new Sister

He looked like a boy king dethroned

His breath-Death's cologne

I couldn't go on

Never again

The disquietude

And the solitude of a sinking ship's captain

Not again

I barely feel the belt

I create an intricate colourful excuse

"The knight is hidden"

The path is lost

But hope is not

If she can change him, so can I

The sorries appear with practised ease

The 'I mean it' is as effective as my 'please'

The hug feels like fire

Our tears criss-cross like the stories of a liar

All is fair in love and war

"True love is not only in folklore

They just left the black out of the rainbow

The knight will come on the morrow"

There he stood sorry as an awakened-from dream

With roses and cards and the exhausted routine
