*Her*
I watch out of the window at the mail delivery man like a little child.
I watch as he parks the truck right in front of our mailbox.
I watch as he goes and disappears in the back of the truck.
I watch as he pulls out a large red box with a white bow placed on top.
He walks up the steps to our porch and places the package down. After a moment he is gone with the truck speeding down to another house.
I wait for a few moments, trying to reason why there laid a present on our porch. My grandmother couldn't have sent it in the mail, she always preferred giving presents in person.
I slowly open the front door, my eyes trained on that box the whole time. I kneel in front of the box and pick it up cautiously.
There wasn't a note or letter attached to it and it also lacked a sender tag.
I open the box and found a smaller velvet box inside with a small white bow on it. Opening that small box filled me with anticipation, like a child on Christmas Day, and my hands shook more violently than normal.
Inside there was a round glass ornament
with small white trees
and snow.It was the most beautiful thing.
I didn't even question who sent it.
