D.M.B's POV*
------------
My name is D.M.B, my brother and all my friends were killed when the vampires rose up and took control of the world, and now they rule the night. I'm the last survivor, but I'm trained to kill vampires on sight to avenge my friends and the fallen, I'm now stronger and faster, more agile and coordinated. I'm currently outside the place where my friends and brother were brutally murdered, I barely escaped with my life, but ever since that night, the one thing that's been haunting me the most in my dreams is the golden orbs that were staring straight into my soul. They seemed to recognize me, I recognized them, although from how many times I've seen them in my nightmares, I can't really be sure at this point. That's the scary part, is that I may know them, from where though? I had hit my head and for some reason I woke up in a ditch, that's how I survived the attack from the vampires that fateful day.No time for any more chitchat, I'll go straight to the chase. I found that there was a lot of vampire activity around here so I'm hoping its the vampire that killed my brother and friends so that I can avenge them and let their souls go to rest after all this time. I'll admit that I'm a bit scared, I don't want the same fate as my friends and brother, and I don't want to fail them and die the way they did. I gripped the sharpened stakes I had in my hands as I opened the door, memories flooding my mind as I looked around at the darkened rooms. Such happy memories now filled with sorrow and darkness, what has become of this world? I pulled my hat down a bit, trying to recover and regain focus on the task at hand.
"These were specifically made for you..." I mumbled to myself, a dark tone in my voice as I looked at the sharp stakes in my hand, I tightened my grip on them and focused my attention back on the darkness ahead of me. I walked in carefully, my plan was to open the curtains and expose the vampire to sunlight to weaken it. I remembered that there were curtains covering a big window in the living room, so I took a left, quickly going and opening the curtains. I heard a loud hiss behind me, making me jump, holding out the sharpened stakes in front of me. A dark figure was sitting in the darkest corner of the room with a hood and cape covering them, clearly a vampire. "Just stay still, this'll be slow and painful." I said with a monotone voice, approaching the vampire slowly. Suddenly, it turned and glared at me, that's when I saw them, the golden orbs. I was struck with a strong feeling of insanity taking over as I smirked upon seeing them. "Long time no see, you bloodsucking heartless monster." I advanced towards it with the stake raised up high. It stood up, standing up straight to its full height, the vampire was much taller than I had estimated. But that didn't get in my way or get in between me and sweet vengeance now, I've come too close to my goal to back down, no more running.
It bolted for the back room, holding the hood over its head. "You wanna play a game of chase? You're not the only one who likes that game." I chuckled, knowing from memory that there were no other doors to escape except through the one that I'm standing in front of. "Hello fleshy one, you interest me, very interesting. I'm surprised such a small being of a your size is brave enough to touch the front door of my refuge." I heard the deep and raspy voice of the vampire come from the corner of the room, it's golden eyes glowed as it was staring at me in the darkness. "You'd be surprised, size doesn't matter, it's how big the will of a person is what matters the most, that's what they all say." I kept the stakes out and ready to strike if the vampire pulled a fast one. "A cocky one, are we? Funny, it's rare I come across prey who will talk to me before I kill them, I must say, it's quite odd to have your food talk to you while its sitting on your dinner plate." It laughed darkly, the vampire's laugh sent chills down my spine.
I could now see the outline of the vampire, it's characteristics seeming more and more recognizable the longer I stared. I guess I got lost in my train of thought, because I didn't realize the vampire had lunged at me and we tumbled into the living room, scrambling to get up. It hissed and the sound of a faint sizzle could be heard as the vampire stumbled back, frantically going to pull its hood over its head again. I used this as my chance to tackle the vampire and get the upper hand. I brought down the stake at its chest but a hand grabbed my wrist and kept me from diving the stake into its blackened heart. I pulled the hood off its head again, the sunlight streaking across his face, it's other free hand swatted at my face and knocked my hat off. I immediately recognized who it was, he had red-skin, horns, and a demon tail now flicking around. "HellBent!?" I exclaimed, a look of shock and disbelief now plastered on my face. "D.M.B!? What the hell?!" He had just as much of a look of shock on his face as mine did as we just stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity. "HOW COULD YOU MURDER YOUR OWN FRIENDS!?" I yelled at him, regaining focus and snapping out of my state of shock, now focusing my attention back on vengeance.
"I'm sorry! I couldn't help it!" He said, trying to defend himself as he strained against my hand from getting the stake closer to his heart. "SORRY DOESN'T CUT IT! YOU BETRAYED US!!!" I had tears pricking at the corner of my eyes, realizing that one of my own friends would so easily go as far as betraying us, images of the dead lifeless bodies of my brother and friends and each and every one of their eyes staring at me had flashed through my mind. "I know! I HAD NO CHOICE!" He yelled, now trying to get out of the hold I had on him, I only now pressed the end of the stake above where his stone heart was, now drawing blood to which I found odd with him being a vampire. "YOU HAD A CHOICE, YOU SHOULD'VE MADE THE RIGHT ONE!!" I now had tears streaming down my face and some falling onto his burned cheek, his pupils shrunk all of the sudden, as if he realized something important.
"You're.... You're right...you've m-made me realize that.....and now I'm d-doing what I should've done a long time ago to repay for my deeds in hopes of forgiveness.." He said before putting his other free hand on the back of my head and pressing his cold lips on mine, taking me by surprise and making me start to blush. "I didn't get to say that I missed you, and should've told you a long time ago that I loved you, I'm sorry for holding out on confessing but it was so hard for me to do so." He sighed, tears were starting to line the edge of his eyes. "HellBent... I-I didn't know...." I didn't realize what I was still doing until it was too late because he removed his hand that was holding my wrist he was using to keep me from staking him. It was then stabbed deeply into the middle of his chest, dark red blood spilling from the wound and from his mouth, I immediately withdrew my hand. My eyes widened in shock upon realizing what had happened, his eyes were wide as well and the colour was draining from his golden eyes fast. "HellBent!!" I yelled, now trying my best to cover the wound to keep him from dying, but it was too late, I had staked his heart.
There was no emotion behind his eyes as he sat up slowly, now wrapping his arms weakly around me in an embrace, when a sharp pain had suddenly came from my neck, the pain had shot throughout my body, making me hiss. A warm substance now running down my neck from the spot of pain, I reached my hand up shakily, feeling two holes in my neck. "HellBent... Why would you....?" I had started to ask in my state of shock before I realized his arms had fallen limp, no longer hugging me, his chin resting on my shoulder. "I'm sorry, I..." He said, trailing off, now going completely limp, his weight now pressing down on my shoulders and back. "HellBent?" I asked after a few moments of silence passed. No response. I panicked, realizing that he wasn't moving or breathing, his face now turning deathly pale despite the natural coloration of his skin.
He was gone, I avenged my brother and my friends, but now I need to avenge HellBent. The last person I needed to kill.
Was myself.
I used the last sharpened stake I had left over, and without a flinch I stabbed myself in the chest with it. As my vision faded to black and my body began feeling cold and numb, I curled up and rested my head on HellBent's chest, clinging to him for dear life with the last of the strength that I could muster. Placing one final kiss on his ice cold lips, before everything went black.Word Count: 1668
