Chapter 4- Ashton Eaton
"Thanks for shopping at Eddie's Music House. Have a great evening," I conclude as I wave off the customer who just purchased a beginner's guitar. The door closing shut signals the end of my shift at the music store. I walk to the back of the store and remove my name tag and the store's t-shirt.
"You all done Ash?" asks my boss Eddie. He's a middle aged British man who is a bit shorter than me by a few inches and about as muscular as me, if not a bit more. He has light brown hair that often times falls in his eyes which happen to be a dark grey color. (A/N: If you wanna know who he kinda looks like, search of Sam Claflin to get a glimpse of how he looks ;P)
"Yes sir," I respond as I throw on my sweat shirt over my plain white tee.
"Who else is out there?" asks Eddie while polishing a triangle.
"Hugo. He's just closing up shop," I answer as I grab my backpack and rub my tired eyes with my free hand.
"Alright well goodnight kid. Take care of yourself," Eddie tells me softly as he gently claps my back and pushes me towards the exit. I smile tiredly at him and give a half-hearted wave before uttering a goodnight to Hugo and walking out the store.
As soon as I got home this afternoon, I had noticed my mom wasn't home so that left me an hour by myself working on some music since I don't have homework. Then after the hour was up, I made my way to work. To say I was upset was putting it mildly. I missed my mom but I understood our situation and accepted it. Not everyone has a perfect and easy life.
Now I'm certain my mom will either finally be home tonight or she'll end up coming home sometime in the morning hours. Either way, I'll make sure to make her load easier at home by gaining my own money and buying the essentials while she works to pay the bills.
I unlock my car and climb in, getting ready to head home. However, on the way, I stop at Walmart for a quick errand. I rush inside, grabbing a hand basket in the process. I want to be in and out as soon as possible in case my mom is home.
I rush to the candy section and grab a mix bag of chocolates as well as a separate bag of mini Snickers. I throw them in the basket before stopping at the chips section and grabbing two bags of barbecue chips since those are the best and Flaming Hot Cheetos.
Satisfied, I make my way to the self-check out to see the person I least expected to see inside of Walmart. "Mays?" I ask out loud just in case I was mistaken.
The girl turns around so fast I almost assume she'll have whiplash. Her mouth parts open and her eyes widen. "The boy from the hallway!" she calls out. I raise my brow and smirk down at her and her nickname for me. Funny how that's how she only knows me. Oh well. It's to be expected considering the fact that she probably never saw me before, like I wanted and planned. Our meeting in the hallway was completely and utterly coincidental, if you can call it that.
"What are you doing here?" I ask as I peer over her shoulder at her items. She has Cookies n' Cream and Cookie Dough mix ice cream as well as some chips and chocolate with a bottle of Gatorade.
