She hadn't intended to be so forthcoming with physical contact. Daniel and Scarlet had learned the hard way to exclude most forms of physical contact in order to maintain a platonic friendship.

"You bastard," She swatted his arm as they made their way to the couch closet the windows.

As he unbuttoned his jacket, Scarlet took the time to maneuver his build with her eyes. They had last seen each other 2 years ago, a distance created mutually on their paths. He towered above her at 6.4" with lean square shoulders. His jet black hair was cut low and glistened under the office light. While his face wore the remnants of stressful work days an exhaustion with its low stubble. Daniels face was breathtaking, he had  innocence of prince charming but the fiercity of a villan, hidden behind the most beautiful olive eyes she had ever seen. In high school their parents had always joked that if they were to procreate that their children would be phenomenal, not that she disagreed.

"Are you finished? Or should I do a little twirl" Daniel teased with his signature cunning smirk.

Scarlet began to blush profusely, he always knew how to gauge a reaction from her.

"Well what can I say, you have certainly let yourself go DEDE!" She chastised with a smile that left her lips and walked straight into Daniel's heart.

" God Jazzy, how many times have we went over that name? what is it with you and feminizing my name!" he retorted with a sigh.

Scarlet only but toppled over at his response, causing a smile to tug at his lips. She had came up with the name in 7th Grade after Daniel had refused to stop calling her Jazzy; short for Jasmine which he relented about seeing as it was the color of her eyes. With his reputation for being a hard core play boy and after hours of Dexter's Laboratory, she insisted that his name would be DeDe. This all but made Daniel stop speaking to her for a week, until he caved and accepted that this was his new name, much to his distaste.

" I actually came with a peace offering and moral support for when you break this ice with your board. I may have been absent but I heard your anguish and answered your call for a night in shining armor," he said while pulling a black velvet box from his coat pocket.

When it open Scarlet almost fainted, though she was use to lavish gifts this was by far one of the most beautiful thought of and significant. There clad in all its glory rested a beautiful necklace, the pendant being a pair of white diamond wings with a single jasmine jewel in the shape of a heart at the center.

"Daniel I cant take that, that must have cost you a fortune." She whispered, feeling a bit choked up at the sight of such a precious gift.

"Exactly why you dare not insult my gift by rejecting it." he asserted with a stern face. He had wanted to offer her so much more, the world perhaps if she would see him as anything other than he man whore best friend.

"Thank you, I truly cant find words to express the beauty of this, " was her simple reply as tears threatened to make an entrance. Scarlet had lost her grandmother their junior year of high school, a woman who she had simply adored and loved as though it were her own mother. The necklace was so significant because her grandmother had nicknamed her 'angel' as a child because she has insisted that Scarlet's soul and heart were so pure. Daniel was one of the few people that understood their connection and why she was never the same again.

"Aren't you going to let me put it on for you?"

"Absolutely." Scarlet turned her back to Daniel and quickly whisked her curl to the side as Daniel  gently lay the necklace against her chest.

Daniel felt fireworks in his fingertips as they ran over the exposed skin on her neck, a simple gesture with such a powerful response. He willed his body not to betray him as he struggled with the clasp, fingers trembling with desire and fear. Daniel paused when he felt her soft skin caress the top of his hands giving it a tight squeeze.

The atmosphere in the office began to intensify as both Scarlet and Daniel fought their own ever present battle.

Scarlet with the battle of avoiding the bad boy and Daniel with the yearning to have the one that got away.

The door suddenly flung open startling them both and relinquishing the moment that thankfully almost never happened.
