The sun had barely begun its accent into the sky. It was close to being 6 a.m., and the Shimada brothers were just making their way out of their rooms and toward the kitchen of the castle, looking exhausted. Their entire beings in sleepy disarray. And both dragging their ninja weapons behind them.

The eldest brother, Hanzo Shimada, usually had everything in its rightful place. But it seemed that even he had had a tough time getting ready this morning. His clothes looked disheveled, and his long hair was swaying in front of his face, not tied back properly as it usually was. His eyes drooped almost closed as

The youngest brother, Genji Shimada, was known for being a lazy and rebellious, but this morning seemed particularly bad. His clothes were in the same state as his brother's, if not worse, and his green hair messier than usual with his headband slipping down his forehead and covering his eyes.

But as they made their way to the kitchen, the sweet sound of humming could be heard. The boys stumbled into the kitchen, Genji running into the door frame because of his blocked vision, and found the slender figure of the Crown Princess, Otome, setting out breakfast.

The sight of the soon-to-be Empress, seemed to shock the 2 brothers, once Genji had pushed his headband off one of his eyes. She looked in no way tired. She looked as a princess should. Her kimono was straight and neat, her long dark hair pulled back behind her back, even a light touch of makeup could be seen on her face. They chalked it up to the fact that 'a Princess always rises early.'

Otome had set out a traditional Japanese breakfast for the family. Their father had already come and gone, gently reprimanding her for fixing breakfast (as the future empress, it wasn't her place), and had even informed the princess that his sons would be coming down soon. For training, she had assumed. She was just setting some kobachi out when she noticed the boys standing in the doorway.

The smile that had adorned Otome's face soon disappeared at the sight of the disoriented looking brothers. She covered her mouth with the sleeve of her kimono, to hide the giggle that came out. She set the plates down then walked over to the two of them, smile re-established on her face.

"I don't think you want your father seeing you two like this," she said, her voice soft, seeing as it looked like the two had just woken up, which they probably did.

First she took both of their weapons and leaned them against the wall, so they could gather them as they left.

She swiftly put herself to work, straightening up their attire. She fixed Hanzo's clothing, straighten and refastening the armor that adorned his right shoulder, and making sure the quiver on his back was positioned correctly. Then she went to work on pushing his hair out of his tired eyes and into its rightful place, framing his face. She even turned him around to properly place his hair in his usual ponytail at the base of his neck. After she was satisfied she sent him to eat while she worked on his brother.

She almost burst out in laughter when she turned to fix Genji. The boy had fallen asleep where he stood! She shook her head and never the less, set to work adjusting the green ninja's attire. She had re-tied his belt, readjust his armor, both on his shoulder and on his arms. She straightened out his signature orange scarf around his neck, and still he boy had not awoken. She laughed as she took his headband off completely and fixed his hair so that it laid back in its usual style before slipping the metal back over his forehead. Once she was finished she attempted to awaken the sleeping ninja.

"Genji," she spoke gently, as to not frighten him from his slumber. "Genji, you need to eat," she added. The ninja swayed, eyes fluttering open. He looked around confused before finding the table and stumbling forward.

"Food," he mumbled as he all but fell into one of the chairs and started to consume the breakfast that Otome had set out.

Otome smiled as she watched the two brothers eat. Early morning training was frequent. Breakfast before early morning training, never happened. Until Otome was sent to live them.

It may have been their job to protect her,

but she had made it her job to take care of them.
