The moon shone down on the training facility. Everything was quiet, the soldiers were in bed, fast asleep, no drill sergeants yelling at the new recruits. The night was peaceful. But, while the soldiers were resting, a certain bassist was sitting on the top of one of the buildings, her legs swung over the edge, and her bass in her lap. Soft, low sounds came from the instrument as Paradox strummed the neon strings. She hummed the tune of a song her mother would sing to her at night to help her get over a nightmare, a small gentle smile stayed was on her lips.
"I wouldn't sit there is I were you," a voice behind her said, startling the young woman. The sounds of the bass stopped as she whipped around to find the source of the sudden intrusion. There stood one of the soldiers Paradox had seen out in the crowd as her and her band played for the compound. She relaxed slightly, seeing the blonde haired soldier, the smile returning to her lips.
"I'm not gonna fall, if that's what you're afraid of," she stated as she turned back around, this time her legs crossed as she sat on the edge, putting her bass across her lap. "Unless you scare me again," she added with a smirk, looking over at the soldier who was rubbing the back of his head.
"Hehe, sorry about that, ma'am," he said, his cheeks tinted pink. "May I?" he asked, gesturing to the spot next to her. The bassist only smiled and nodded. The soldier made his way over and sat beside Paradox. "I'm Jack, by the way. Jack Morrison."
"Paradox Aurora Borelas... a lot of people say Aurora Borealis though," Paradox responded, laughing under her breath at how many people mistake her name.
"Ms. Borelas, shouldn't you be-" Jack started but was quickly cut off by Paradox putting her hand over his mouth.
"Hey! It's Paradox. I am younger than you, which typically means you don't owe me that kind of respect," she said as she lowered her hand away from his face. "Besides, i'm just your entertainment for the time being," she added, holding her bass and strumming a few chords.
Jack only started at her for a moment before he went back to talking. "Well then, Paradox, shouldn't you be asleep?" he asked. It was pretty late at night, and the musician had another show for the soldiers the next night.
"Shouldn't you?" she shot back, not looking up from her fingers that danced across the neck of the guitar. A smirk could be seen on her lips as she continued her strumming, if her hair wasn't hiding her face like a curtain.
Jack's eyes widened in shock, then he smiled, sighed, and looked up at the sky full of stars. "Touché," he said chuckling. A short giggled came from Paradox.
